I have a creek in my back yard,the plants are just beautiful! There is a bunch of lilly pad plants,moss,some type of stringy moss also,some beautiful rocks in all different variety's of colors,shapes and sizes. Im about to go back out to get somemore,right now i have aquarium rocks in my tank and personally i hate any type of rocks inside a aquarium,im a plant person,cause nature it just beautiful. When i get my plants from the creek,i would always fill a container up "of my aquarium water" and i would throw the plants in there and leave it outside overnight,the reason why you want to leave it outside is because there is alot of bugs on those plants and you dont want to put it in your aquarium right away. The next day i would wash them off under the outside faucet,and then bring them in and wash them under warm water,you just dont want anything to hurt your fish,rather be safe than sorry. I have a few albino goldfish and about 5 shrimp,1 salamander,2 crabs,and i might get a african dwarf frog pretty soon.its not my choice to get the plants,its just better for my shrimps health :)

how would you clean and prep these for aquariums? you know to keep pests and algae out?
@vaporfarts9 жыл бұрын
Chris Kelley I know this is a bit late, but for anyone else curious use a diluted bleach solution to soak them. More sensitive plants can be soaked with hydrogen peroxide. You can also use potassium permanganate to soak plants. Basically these are all various oxidizers. Most plants have evolved stronger cell walls with antioxidant properties. Algaes, bacteria and fungus don't have the same resistance. Do some reading on how much to dilute these chemicals. Hydrogen Peroxide can be used pretty liberally as its pretty weak compared to the rest I listed(in its common 3% form).

First,nice vid! Second,you should not collect anything without first indentifying it. You don't want to get in trouble for remove a protected or invasive species.Also watch what you mail to others. As some states prohibit some species.Your sword looking plant is a plantain species. And will not survive being submerged.Your crypt looking one I think is water plantain and will survive if some of the leaves can reach the surface.That is a native hairgrass called spike rush.Not sure of exact species

ok thanks for the help man. i was in shock of all the cool plants that were there so i had to make a vid cause i go to the same ditch a mile down and ony find anacharis and some sort of hygro i think and i was riding my bike and looked down and saw it and had to check it out. Since your restarting your tanks do u want any plants that i have found? i'll ship them to you if you do.

The last plant you found with the cool shaped leaves. I have no idea of. Also what you called ludwigia is ludwigia. Not sure on species though.Most likely ludwigia palustris since your from Indiana. And the stuff your calling sag. I don't think is sag.

I would ask the same question. Does no answer mean it didn't work out...?! Anyway it would be interesting to know where you collected the plants (I mean at least in which state) and what plants exactly. For example cryptocorynes are native to Asia...

are these actually aquatics, and will thrive submerged? or just a rain swollen creek getting land plants temporarily semi-submerged? and by the way, to the people asking him to send plants, in CA it is illegal to trade or sell captured native animals, dead or alive. im not sure if that includes plants. I'm just letting you kno.

I honestly got to say, I feel like this video set me up lol. I went expecting it to be sweet and easy, like this tuber's experience was, and it was far from. The pond's plants were way way out and I'm not sure I was successful at finding a true aquatic plant. :(. I did get one plant that's in my 50 gallon tank video, but I'm not sure what it is or if its a true aquatic plant. sigh...Woe is me
