I get all my plants from the lakes I go fishing in. I put them straight in my aquarium from the lake. No rinsing. This helps get the tank become a complete ecosystem. I never had a problem in doing it this way. Doesn't seem to phase my angel fish.

I am planning on turning my 75 gallon into a natural tank and found myself here to see what plants you are finding. On a side note, i noticed the nail polish and wondered, that must symbolize something, looked it up, and love the cause! I dont understand how some of these comments are immediately like, "nail polish, run!!!" Probably dont like any vintage Bowie either, 😅

Lol I found most of the plants I have readily available are non natives or downright invasive.

Make sure the new spikey plant doesn't have little bladders at the nodes of the stems. It looks to me like it might be bladderwort which will trap fry and eat them in the bladders.

That's awesome! They're great fish if you keep them with the right tank mates.

The third plant after the two ferns is fan club moss. Not a moss, but an evergreen, I believe.

That spikey spinney stuff is called brittle naiad or najas minor I believe. Grows super fast. Got it in a pond snail tank in the window with no lights no filter just indirect sunlight and mud capped with sand. Also got sago pondweed and leafy pondweed growing fast in it too. Tried the curly leaf but it grew a bunch and then completely died so from what I've found it's just annual in nature

The second fern I think is called cinnamon fern. If they send up cinnamon brown sporing spikes in the spring or fall then it is cinnamon fern.

Long Curly Pondweed, Eurasian Milfoil. All invasive aquatic freshwater species here in the midwest and prevalent throughout the 50 states. The brittle, spiny looking plant looks like a Niad of some sort?

What you do is put gravel down on the bottom of your tank then add some Pond soil and cap it with sand will do nice for your plants that particular plant takes lots of nutrients to grow and the pain soil will provide that

Yeah, it's definitely a species of watermilfoil, but I'm not sure which. Apparently it could even be a hybrid.

Not trying to be a snob, but it looks like you transported 3 invasive plant species. Eurasian milfoil, curly leaf pond weed, and creeping Jenny at least here in Wisconsin are prohibited for transportation and you could get a pretty hefty fine. It's pretty important to not transport these species to prevent spreading to other areas. Great aquarium plants but that's how they got here and have done a number on native ecosystems. Sorry, I'm an environmental consultant emphasized in ecological restoration and had to say something since invasive species control is a big part of what I get called in to do.

Yeah, I should probably start saying I'm collecting "local" plants, since so many are invasive, not actual natives.
@dakotagreg1177
@dakotagreg1177 15 күн бұрын
The invasive weeds are usually transported by boats and boat trailers that go in and out of various waters. Most states require all weeds to be cleaned off the boats/trailers and livewells need to be drained. Foraging such weeds/removing them can really only help get rid of them. I havent seen a law against foraging weeds.
