Really sorry about the audio in the intro and outro. It was perfectly in sync during the edit and afterwards but seems out now...🤔 Anyway, at least you can’t see me during the important bits! 😂 Thanks for watching!

This video just changed my life as a colorist. Yes I know how to color and pretty good at it since I make a living as a filmmaker. But being so stuck into learning how to color I never learn how to grade faster and optimized my workflow. I knew a few of the tips but the rest blew my mind. I’m ready to double and triple the amount of work I take at a time after watching this video.

Thanks Alex I've been using DaVinci Resolve for about a year as I made the move from final cut as i changed over to black magic camera is absolutely love Divinci but it's a bit like my brain i use about 10% of it and have looked at many online tutorials but I have to say the way that you deliver your tutorials is very clear concise and easy to follow it's like a breath of fresh air thank you so much

A couple weeks later and we’ve watched this video second time… Got much more out of it the second time. I think the trick is not to know everything, but to pick your two favorites and memorize those. This video does show the power of resolve color and it is astonishing. Thank you for doing such a great and thorough job.

Hey Allen, you're so welcome. I know there's quite a lot there and I totally hope that people will do as you've done and come back and take a little new learning away each time. I wanted to cover the topic as completely as I could as there are many ways to do each task in Resolve and it greatly depends on your use case and workflow needs. Thanks so much for watching and commenting on this and other videos! Means a lot to see you're getting something from the content I'm putting out!

I assume it's some sort of battle armour that serious graders cannot do without, but as someone new to Davinci after spending ages looking for copy-and-paste options, I was very grateful to see a much clearer explanation.

Alex- very impressed how thorough your tutorials are. I find that when testing or demonstrating - especially something like this. the over push of red or green etc. with the offset makes it easier for viewers to quickly see the results across the thumbnails. I understand that you are actually using it the way you would in real life scenarios, by putting a quick grade on it, and that is equally as important I guess. I would add that another place that could be applied for grading multiple clips is in the multicam timeline - right clicking and open in timeline that gives the stacked clips - when that is open you can jump to the color page and grade all the full clips from the multicam. And then when you go back and switch it back to the regular multicam, every cut clip in the multicam has a grade applied. Anyway although I already knew all this stuff, I really appreciate that fact that you covered it very well for those who have not yet been exposed to this information. They can be assured that this is being taught to them properly and accurately. Unfortunately, I can't say that for a lot of Davinci Resolve youTubers. Great job, Alex,
@AlexCameron-Depiqd

Thanks so much for that! Really appreciate you watching the videos and taking the time to comment. I do try to provide a bit of the why behind that what and how as I think that’s where really learning comes from. Then it can be applied to other scenarios. You’re absolutely right though...another application would be in multi cams for sure. I’ve done that one myself but didn’t mention here as it was already a long video. I’ve always done the extreme adjustment just because the subtle ones are hard enough to see on my screen let alone on KZbin after compression. Hopefully it gives the idea of the theory and mechanics. Often worry the videos are too long though...maybe some shorter ones too?

This video has and will save me hours of work as I previously worked on similar clips in a completely manual and individual way. This was excellent. I have one question. I have a multicam clip created from ATEM Mini Pro ISO files (I'm not using the DR project file that ATEM creates). My timeline is complete and can't figure out the smart filter to filter on multicam clip angle. Got advice?
@AlexCameron-Depiqd
@AlexCameron-Depiqd Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Craig. That's a great question and whilst I feel as though it should be possible, there isn't a smart filter option that enables you to use the Multicam Clip Angle or Name (from the track header of the MC clip). I'd recommend a slight workaround as I'm an advocate for flattening your multi-cam clip before you do any grading or exporting of your project. So, 1) Duplicate the timeline and rename or add suffix 'grade' or 'final'; 2) Open the MC in the timeline (right click > Open in timeline); 3) Select all the clips in V1 and add the number 1 to the metadata field for 'Angle'; 4) Repeat this step of all clips in V2 but put 2 in the Angle field; 5) Repeat for all the tracks you need to number; 6) Open the duplicated timeline again; 7) Select all the MC clips then right-click and then Flatten MultiCam Clip; 8) Open the flattened timeline in the Colour page and now filter by Angle (Media Pool properties) and you should then be filtering the timeline clips based on their angle metadata.
@CraigHollabaugh
@CraigHollabaugh Жыл бұрын
@@AlexCameron-Depiqd wow, that's quite a workaround, 8 steps. To follow along your suggestion, I need to learn what flatten is. Thanks so much Gabriel. Really appreciate your comments. To answer your question, no not using an Apple mouse. As you say, it's very hard to use the third mouse button commands with an Apple mouse. I have the MX Master from Logitech but you don't need that one. I would highly recommend getting a mouse with a dedicated scroll wheel/third mouse button. Razer do some great ones as do Logitech that also have other customisable buttons than you can have run small macros and shortcuts to helps speed up your workflow. Hope that helps!

I just need a tutorial where they don't use a middle mouse button

That’s a good point and most things can also be done with either a keyboard shortcut or menu item too. That said, even a cheap mouse with a middle mouse button would be a really good investment. Should cost the earth either. Out of interest, what function in particular are you missing out on without the middle mouse click? I take it you have a trackpad/laptop?

@@AlexCameron-Depiqd yes, track pad. I rest it on the arm of my sofa when I'm on it so no room for a mouse, Haha. I'll check the settings for a middle mouse click, it would make things a lot easier. Thanks
