From my understanding in Final Cut Pro you want to make color adjustments before the rec709 lut is applied(You can still apply the lut first and then make color adjustments under the lut rather than over the lut.) By placing a second adjustment layer over the rec709 lut, isn’t that adjusting the colors after the rec709 lut has been applied? If so, you’re missing out on some of the data the 10 bit log profile provides.

I have seen that somewhere too, I have always applied the LUT under the info panel to all clips on import which seemed the quickest way to me but have recently seen others saying that is wrong. I am not a professional colour grader so would be good for someone to confirm which is the best or correct way to get the most of out your video.

@ That is correct, you don’t want to apply the lut in the info panel. Once the rec709 lut is applied it reduces the amount of color data you have to work with in the clip. So what you want to do is apply a custom lut effect to the clip, select your rec709 conversion lut, and then make your adjustments before the rec709 lut rather than after it. Try adjusting the white balance on a clip after applying the Rec709 lut. Then move the adjustment on top(behind) the lut and you’ll see how it makes a difference. Wish I’d known it sooner! Much easier to get rid of orange walls because you have more data to work with.

Hey brother, I love your videos and your tips; they help me a lot. But I want to tell you that one of the things that is helping me create better videos is a light on my gimbal. I use the Godox ML100Bi (with Godox ML-CD15); if you use this, you will have better colors, and you will see outside of the house much better.

Dude! You are so incredibly helpful! Thank you! I'm curious, do you think the time of day you film this at helps keeping details in the windows? Also, lights on or off?
@James_Bottomley2 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! Time of day definitely helps but also having properties with a lot of natural light helps a lot. I usually have lights on

Great video, as always. Also worth mentioning that houses like these are dream scenarios. So many of the houses I shoot don't have the big windows or bright colors and are nightmares 🤣 Is that rec709 converstion lot different/better than the official ones that Canon supplies?
