Very nice, simple, and handy technique. And easily captured in a Color LUT. I know this is a little more involved, but I always struggle with deciding why I would color tone this image and not that one. I also struggle with choosing which colors to use and at what level of intensity. It's pretty much the same, you can achieve everything Levels can do by using Curves, but you can also add points to the curve itself, brightening or darkening particular areas of tone in the image.
