Hope you all enjoy today's tutorial - I know its long but I had lots of things to cover and I wanted to make sure I went over enough to provide a decent introduction to watercolor pencils:) Let me know if you have any questions and have you tried watercolor pencils?

I really enjoyed this tutorial! I would love to see you recreat your old art! Those are super inspirational to me and i kinda want to see how you've developed 💜

This was very helpful. I only ever have to adapt a few things (I don’t own anything like an acrylic block so I just blend right on the paper) and I think you are very good at describing things for young aspiring artists (like me) and you usually make most of your items available for everyone and all of your things easy to adapt. I love your art so keep it up 💖❤️😀

Thank you, this was so helpful! I have a pack of watercolour pencils, and then my friend bought me a larger pack of 36 colours. This made me really want to properly learn how to use them because I had used the smaller pack before and found that all the pigment went away when I put water on it. Some of that may have been because my paper was cold pressed so has a lot of texture
@WindyIris6 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the video Abby - all the pigment going away may also happen if you add too much water, it floods out the pigment:)

yay watercolor pencils!!!! my current favourite medium!! this was very informative, i've definitely been doing the 'too much water' thing, haha. i hadn't thought of blending from the pencil onto a block, i've just been blending in layers on dry paper, so that was very useful as well. thank you!!!

I'm glad you found the video helpful:) I was doing the too much water thing for ages myself.

This was very helpful! I have to adapt some things, if I don’t have the right stuff. I don’t have an acrylic block, or anything really like it, so I just colour one colour or on top of the other, then activate it with water. It’s basically the same but right on the paper instead of first on a block. If I want to change the colour I will just add a bit more of one colour into it. It’s not as good as having a block but I have to make do with what I have. Another great video, this helped me so much as watercolour pencils are my main art supply. Keep up the great art! 💖💖❤️❤️

Glad you found the video helpful - I often find that old plastic packing is a great substitute to acrylic blocks.

I like using vellum Bristol board for wc pencils and ink washes (basically when using limited water). I have noticed that white “sealant” as you call it on my Inktense pencils, I think it is actually a phenomenon related to the water soluble wax they use as binder not a sealant because if I leave them to sit for a few weeks it sometimes returns it it doesn’t cause any issues for using

I've used the water directly on the pencil with the brush and after a while they were ruined. The lead hardened and I wasn't able to use them direct on paper without scaring the paper. Maybe was the brand, or maybe I've used too much water. Or maybe the water on the wood did this. But I would be careful with this technique, specially with expensive pencils. However, loved the tips and techniques, some of them I've already tried, some not. Thank you 😊
@WindyIris6 жыл бұрын
I never had that happen to me so it may the brand you're using. I'm using woodles watercolor pencils here so I don't think that would happen to them but thanks for sharing the tip:)

Thanks for the tutorial, it was great. Just wondering if you have used watercolour pencils on horse, I have the animorphs book and painting the horse towards the back of the book, I have done most of it but don’t want to mess up the horse

Caran d'ache has a special watercolor palette with a texture on it so you scribble with watercolor pencils on it and pick up the color from the palette with a brush or mix the colors.

I don't know if I have the same thing as you but I am going to try : ). We call it "progresso" or "woodless coloured pencils" in my language. So hope it work :). If no I don't mind Edit : I works but with a little diffrence : you must get wet the pencil and pait on paper with brush. It works better with a darker colors. But still thank you for the idea ☺
@WindyIris6 жыл бұрын
I hope it works out well - you should be able to use these technique with any water soluble pencil:)

If you already have watercolors, do you think it's worth it to buy watercolor pencils, like are the effects different?
@WindyIris6 жыл бұрын
You get similar effects with both - I think it depends on what you prefer using, I like the pencils because I feel like I have a little more control over the paint and I like that I don't usually have to mix colors. I don't think you need to have both, if you have watercolors, I don't think you have to have watercolor pencils as well. The only thing you can't do with watercolors is make those hard lines that don't wash away:)

Have you used the Arteza water brushes, ?
@bostonblackie95034 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think first and foremost they are a pencil and should be used as such if people want to take the colour from the pencil why not use regular watercolours?
