I am so happy to see a tutorial that starts light and adds layers. That's how I've always colored, and it seems like all tutorials I see start with the darker colors first lol

I’m so glad! Yes, I do more light to dark when I work with Polychromos, as they work so differently to say Prismacolor, where it’s more common to start dark and go lighter. I think because so many tutorials are using Prismacolor, many will just use the same method when using oil based, but you definitely get the best out of oil based pencils when going light and layering. Thank you for such a lovely tutorial on the Fuchsia. They are one of my favorite flowers. I finally bought World of Flowers from Amazon, but was surprised to find out that with along with the new square shape the paper appears to be as smooth as glass. Many of us are financially restricted to budget pencils. Is there a brand you could suggest that would be able to layer and blend on the super smooth paper that many books seem to changing to from the previous paper with some tooth? Unfortunately, the budget brand pencils, if they provide a swatch sheet at all are sending it on slick paper as well. I have sent back several pencil sets, when I really couldn't be sure if the problems were with the pencils or the paper. Is there a secret technique to forcing our pencils to adapt to today's trending towards using smooth paper in coloring books that have pictures on both sides of each page ruling out the substitution of markers?

I’m so sorry I missed this comment. I have used many so called budget pencils in Johanna’s books without much issue. The Staedtler Ergo Softs are really lovely in her books. I make sure I have my pencils nice and sharp, so that they can work into all the tiny little bumps on the paper. There are some cheaper Faber-Castell pencils out there too, which could be good for you, the Classics (in the red box) would be the cheapest, but I’ve heard good things about the Goldfaber ones as well, but much are a little bit better again. I have some videos using a few different budget pencils so have a look at those, and maybe you can get some ideas 😊

So beautiful! And it's great that you are using Polychromos! Most tutorials just use Prismacolor. Please provide a list of the names of the pencils used in the description box as well; that would be very useful as we can have the pencils or substitute colours ready at the start itself. Thanks!
