This is the first year i have painted since the 90's. Mixing colors without turning into dull colors or mud has been my problem. This has surely helped. Thank You so much! Keeping my pallette net an organize is another thing.

@willkempartschool9 жыл бұрын
+EDKsurly The shape of the cherry and the transition of the burnt umber underpainting has worked really well, when you apply the glaze it can be a touch thinner and then blend the edge with your finger so you get a softer blend, great colours though. Cheers, Will

Very nice Will, thank you. On the occasions where I am looking for that typical bright blue sky color, I use the blue, white, and a very small amount of a blue toned green. It usually works pretty well. I like your method of toning down the brightness also.

Yes, having a green bias blue can be great for those great turquoise blue skies, pleased you enjoyed it. Will

Hi Lowell, I do have course on simple colour mixing, but it might not be advanced as you'd need if you've been painting for a while. It does go into slightly more subtle mixing techniques, but might be too basic. Cheers, Will

This was fantastic. Thank you Will. How do you know how much paint to mix for your painting?
@willkempartschool9 жыл бұрын
+Audrey Bronson Hi Audrey, you learn to judge how much to mix from the experience of doing a few paintings, you'll always usually put out more acrylics that oils, and more oils than watercolours. It's better to have more paint than you need to start with so the acrylics stay wetter for longer when in a larger blob. Hope this helps, Cheers, Will
@audreybronson78169 жыл бұрын
Yes, indeed. Thanks. Keep up the great work.

hi will, thank you this is very helpful to me, i am attempting a storm painting over a pier at dusk and there are lots of purplish blues and deep greys....the sky is a dark bluish grey like the colour in the landscape above, i am having trouble getting that dark bluish grey colour...have you any suggestions please....thanks in advance........
@willkempartschool8 жыл бұрын
Hi nikki, if you tone down the ultramarine blue with some burnt umber you'll get a nice neutral grey. Cheers, Will
@nawangsherpa32099 жыл бұрын
really good information.Can you please tell me if we can use burnt umber or sieena to tone down every colour?
@willkempartschool9 жыл бұрын
+Nawang Sherpa Hi Nawang, burnt umber will give you more range because it is a darker and duller pigment to start with. You can still use burnt sienna to dull down brighter colours, for example adding burnt sienna to a cadmium orange, but the burnt umber is a really handy colour to have on your palette. Cheers, Will

Mixing is time consuming. How do you protect the paint on the pallette from drying out?
@jacklynrinde85627 жыл бұрын
Great video! I think you did a great job of explaining :) How did you get your acrylics to stay so moist and workable? I have trouble getting it to stay wet because it dries so fast
@willkempartschool7 жыл бұрын
Hi Jacklyn, mostly due to the volume of the paint put out to start with. Try putting out 4 times what you think you'll need and then see how long the paint stays workable. Cheers, Will
