Man your videos have been truth filled. I've watched 4 of your videos and every one genuinely helps. You're not just regurgitating the common beard propaganda. So many big and small channels just repeat each other. Never touch your beard with a comb. Use beard oil 7 times a day. Got a stomach ache? Rub beard oil on it. A comb has been critical to my beard success.

Had the handled buffalo horn comb and a handled wide tooth buffalo horn comb for quite a while. They have saved me damaging my beard on a daily basis. I do a very similar technique after a shower and then after ive oiled and buttered my beard. Going straight in with a fine comb for me is a massive no no. I found that using a fine comb ripped my beard to pieces once it got over an inch. This routine is great for my beard and sort of theraputic at the same time although my wife complains that I spend more time in the bathroom doing my beard then she does on her hair :). Again a Great video and Great Advice.

I found a few months ago, that the better it is combed out at night, the better it behaves in the morning... I used to get out of the shower, oil and butter, then bed... It was an unruly mess in the morning. I started blow drying with cool air just to dry it and WOW what a difference... Now even if I don't blow dry it, I comb it several times over a few hours, but make sure it is looking good before bed... Similar to what your video just showed, but I may add a few ideas you just shared... Thanks for the videos!

I bought these two wooden sandalwood combs recently just to try them out, they're really nice but I find that I'm just really clumsy and tend to drop and be rough on things. I read online that wooden combs especially sandalwood tends to break easily if you are careless (like me). For that reason, I decided to buy a small folding Kent comb to try it out and if it works better for me I might just entirely use Kent combs, and just minimize the amount of times I comb to reduce static problems from plastic.

Dan, recently I thought of a great video topic... different products for different days. For example, on days that I blow dry, I prefer to use lighter conditioner in shower, lighter oils, but use a balm or wax to finish. Whereas on days that I am not going to blow dry and just wish to give the routine a break but also nourish beard , I will use thicker and/or more heavier conditioner in shower followed by a thicker oil and butter. Simply put a lot of the best products out there shine better in different applications. I won’t go into exactly what products I prefer to use on either day or scenario, but I thought it’d be cool for you to instead highlight products by the application that they have previously worked best for you at shorter lengths and what’s best working for you now at longer length. Odds are they might work just as well in those specific applications for others as well. Thanks, your videos and tips are always top notch from which I have learned a lot from... not to mention my product collection is rockin’ strong with many of your recommendations such as Fable, Live Bearded, Detroit Grooming, Kingsmen, Freshbeards, and on and on.

Have you tried Dr. Squatch oils? My first oil for my beard was “Lakeside Bourbon.” I bought it along with their bar soaps. (Now I’m using Premium Honest Amish 2oz. as I really enjoy their balm w/ conditioner + I’m in Eastern PA.)

I have not, how are they?

I really enjoyed the smell of the Lakeside Bourbon. It was a comfortable scent that did not linger in a strong way. The soaps were good, I thought the pine tar soap was nice. They only have the one beard oil. Not sure why. There were more months ago. Mostly concentrating on body/head hair. But, I recommend the oil ($18 1oz) The smell is better than premium Honest Amish. But, viscosity is not as thick. I don’t have too much knowledge on oils, slowly getting into it all. Your videos have helped a lot. drsquatch.com/products/lakeside-bourbon

Any suggestions on how to"adjust" the beard once you take the mask off? Like at work, store etc. Once I leave house in the morning. It looks great. But once I enter the office with the mask, I can remove it once to my office. It will look like crap the rest of the day. Thank you. My beard is about 5 inches long.
@leosigman72394 жыл бұрын
A bandana or gaiter works better on a beard that length than a mask does. For my beard, combing up and out, then down into place, restores its look, but I don't know that will work for every beard.
@DanCBearded4 жыл бұрын
The mask is a unique beast! I recommend a mid-day routine, if you can. Get damp, add product, comb through. What I have found after work to get it back, is use a heated brush on a low heat setting. I will show that in a video this Friday.

I've been doing quite a few of these things, some on yours and other beardo's advice, some of it because it feels like common sense, and I've been losing like 1-3 hairs at a time when I really go in on my pre-bed brushing, BUT THEY'VE ALL HAD THEIR PLUGS AND I'M SO HAPPY! I am still trying to figure out my routine to a T, because weekdays I work nights in a dirty warehouse, so I've been doing most of my showering and beard washing before bed, but I am noticing a lot more softness and general good health feelings in my beard every day! I do appear to have a thirsty beard, but I'm also using Every Man Jack "beard and face" wash until my better stuff gets here from BrokeAss, and the EMJ feels like it's really stripping. good video, my habit is actually to do similar most mornings, I comb out from underneath and then down from in front after wetting it and before and after applying oil or balm. I did it primarily for volume and to give my beard some time to absorb some moisture prior to adding the oil, I didn't think it would strengthen it any. I'll admit I am confused though. If combing it in unnatural directions damages it, how does combing it in even more directions help with that?
@chrismarch454 жыл бұрын
I do somewhat of the same as you I usually would comb upward then aply beard oil on the skin as well as the beard hair then I comb it in a downward motion after the comb i go in with a brush doing the same thing then I style with my comb.my concern and question is am I over doing it with bolth comb and brush I use the brush to make sure the oil is completely spread out throught out my beard should I eliminate the brush
@DanCBearded4 жыл бұрын
I would only keep the brush if you see a benefit for styling. I like my beard bigger so the brush goes against that goal. I feel brushes are for shorter beards
@dalesoblo30104 жыл бұрын
At least once a day my big long beard gets combed after a shower and a good dose of oil. Any other time of the day it’s only finger combed. My best comb is a wide toothed one made of ox horn. It does feel marvelous to comb the whole beard. I have a question related to the “be careful about styling “ comment. Once my beard reached about your length I found it easier to braid it at night or when doing physical labor or intense exercise. Braiding certainly keeps it from being damaged or getting in the way. At this point my beard is past my elbow and approaching the belly button. What are your thoughts on braiding? Thanks
@garvitnagpal43303 жыл бұрын
Wow Dan. Love this one. In 2 days, I have learnt so much. You are awesome! A question: You mentioned that if we comb in the direction opposite to the hair’s natural direction, it causes harm. My beard is downward on one side and towards the ears on the other. I find not opposing the flow helpful until the beard is no of medium length. After which if I comb downward on the other side (opposite to natural), gravity and the weight of the hair helps a little, but I still get a big fluff out. So, How does one train the hair ? You say comb in every direction. ( as a night time routine I understand) But, then doesn’t it harm the hair ? And, when fixing your style, if one does not comb all the hair downward and towards the chin, one can’t style, right ?
@DanCBearded3 жыл бұрын
You for sure want to go against the natural direction, but you just need to be smart about it. Be light and do not fight the hair. Let the tool do the work, do not work the tool. I hope that makes sense!

Dan C ASMR 🤣 Dang I don't think I am paying enough attention to the under beard. I feel like a lot of us probably don't get the under beard enough. I try to always comb up and out with the number 7, and then lay it back down with the 8. Looks like I should be going in with the pick too from the front. The fluffed beard makes a lot of sense too, and it will have a more natural look in the morning.

If there any of them out there, they know exactly what I’m talking about in how it CAN compresses your facial hairs. Have any of them found that it impeded on the health, look or feel of their beards? 🤔 Oh, during this whole COVID thing... I wear a P100 respirator while at work too😏. *Again, excellent content. Spot on with your suggested combing/grooming techniques 👍🏿.

I might have missed something but in the video "Comb Your Beard-How Often" you said not to comb a dry beard. Should one wet their beard before combing as suggested in the video? Not pointing out a contradiction just wanting to make sure I'm doing it right for the best of my beard. Believe me my beard needs all the help it can get. :-)

Yes, 100%! Always with product or damp beard

Hey dan! Love your videos, was curious as to why I never see anyone using a standard “detangling” brush. I started using my wife’s a couple weeks ago and it really seems to help separate the hairs better without snagging. My combs always seem to snag a little. Thoughts?

Detangling brushes and combs have snagged in my beard. I learned to move slowly and gently. I think wide-tooth (about 3 mm apart) combs, do well for separation and volume without tangles. The really wide detangling combs don't seem to do much for my beard, and I think I got some split ends using detangling brushes.

Detangling brushes are awful in my beard. Too many layers in my beard and the tool does not get any tangles out lol seems to create them

I use Kent's Detangling comb. Like Dan said, "Let the tool do the work." Take your time. Never comb a "dry" beard (always apply beard oil prior to running a comb through). My beard is NOT as thick and luxurious as Dan's.

Does it apply to a brush too? I have a short beard so my comb doesn't get much done. On a similar note, can I use my brush for oil & butter without worries or does it require a weekly clean? I don't wanna wear my boar bristles with too much cleaning. Love your content!
@DanCBearded4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely works with a brush for short because that still wrap to the face. I wouldn't wash your brush more than a couple times a year at most

@@DanCBearded Awesome, thanks! Also if you don't mind, many people tell to "train" the beard to grow in a certain direction by always brushing/combing it in that direction. Is that an unhealthy thing to do?
@DanCBearded4 жыл бұрын
@@eylonavraham8921 you can train, but at the same time still have healthy habits like this video. Train in the AM, but mix it up in the PM

Is it possible to comb your beard too much? I comb in the morning and at night but several times throughout the day as well
