Your plant combinations are so beautiful! I am adding more native plants in my gardens. I love your selections it is so inspirational. I also like cutting pictures of plants from catalogs and making collages during the wintertime.

what a great idea! I have these very catalogs floating around and I can't wait to use a snowy day to do this activity!

I've been curious about Canva so thanks for the little tutorial! I love combining plants especially in containers. In fact I'm headed to the nursery to pick out some hellebores, etc. to make a couple containers!

Shoot! I already recycled my catalogs. I love this idea. Maybe I'll try Canva and do the cutouts next year. Thank you Yuliya!

What a great idea, I like the paper version …a great use for the seed catalogues that usually get recycled. A fun project for dreary winter days

Love these ideas; I've never used Canva before, but I have done the cut-outs from seed catalogs, but it's been a minute!!! Can't wait to get started!!!

This is really great info! Will you be showing us how you plant these some of these combos in the garden in the springtime? That would be really cool to see how you do it according to how tall they get and what order you think they look best in... I have a problem with heights, flowering times, etc. and how to put them together so they look the best...😄

Learn so much from you! Thank you for actually walking us through the step by step process you use for both methods! I would love it if you would do a video on where you order live plants. I hear about so many plants that I NEVER see in big box stores or nurseries. Our nurseries don’t carry tons. Anyway, when I hear about a plant, I never know which plant companies do a good job or even which ones that carry natives, etc. Would love to know what and when and where you order live plants - sort of a guide like you did with planning. Thanks!

Great idea. Yes, most cool plants are not sold at nurseries

I've been using the S note program on my phone. I just insert images from the garden & some garden web sites. I can doodle right on the screen using the eye dropper color picker so I can see if I need more of a color during a part of the season.

Thanks for again letting us in on your tremendous knowledge of not only plants but also process. I trust you as a landscape architect and totally admire you. ❤ Maybe I’ll get into the profession again….. Back in the day, I made collages (client presentations) of plants, materials, and designs in Photoshop, but I love working in Canva!

Canva is amazing! So much easier than Photoshop.

Great idea. I love the paper collage method the most because it's tactile. Have used Canva for other things, though, and know it's a good visual tool.

I don't think we have so many paper catalogs here in Russia, so I'll go with the digital option. But both methods are fun, and a good practice too! Thank you!

Thank you so much for this! Trying to revitalize our 20ish year old Japanese inspired garden and excited to try both methods. I absolutely love all your videos they are all so informative and relaxing. Any suggestions about flowers I could add to a bamboo patch in mostly sun? The bamboo only gets about 4-5 feet tall so I’d like to add some more interest.
@ydoyougarden5 күн бұрын
So cool. Couple of suggestions. Stick to clumping bamboo. Japanese gardens generally have very few flowers, it’s about shapes and stones. But the beautiful Japanese gardens I visited had azaleas, rhododendrons, wheeping cherries, and lots of interesting evergreens. Check out Huntington and Brooklyn Japanese gardens 😊

I’m old school; paper. Matching up plants in person at the nursery will always be best though.
@janine43606 күн бұрын
Well, but that could throw you off by what’s happening only at that moment with each plant, since you might be distracted by the showiest plants of the time of your visit. If you go in early spring, for example, are you going to be buying late-season grasses « by eye » if they haven’t even emerged yet? Unless you have a very good idea beforehand of what you want to buy for a garden over different seasons, it is better to plan like this, if you can.
