I play at a church with my dad and my brother and we've played together for so many years that we just look at each other and we know what to do.

To be honest in my experience it would be a bonus if the worship leader spent as much time working out the Bpm and the time signature I.e 4/4, 7/8 etc as they do the key

Thanks a ton bro, super helpful! Just sent this to my drummer so we can both be on the same page.

Examples start at 5:15. Good even if you don't play in a church.

I once playing drums for this church and it was weird how the worship leader described my parts. One of the things he said to me is to play "tribal". I understood that he probably meant a tom groove but it made my day. So there is another term for you, a tom groove.

Incredible tips as always. I want to commend you on the drum recording in this video, the snare sounds so tight and I love it!

It kinda feels like this video needs a previous video explaining some elements of basic theory. There was no explanation of what the pocket is. The example of relaxed and driving really didn't help explain what the difference is. "Crashing the ride" is a term that would be entirely foreign to a worship leader trying to communicate to a drummer. A think a video detailing the "why" rather than the "how" is warranted.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree we could have unpacked some of the elements a little more

Didn't quite get what pocket means.

"Pocket" is a bit tricky. To think of it from a purely technical standpoint it has to do with the click. It fits in well with the driving and relaxed discussion of playing ahead/behind the click. Somebody that is "in the pocket" is playing slightly ahead/behind, or right on the click as the song needs.

Playing in the pocket is playing on time, "in the groove". Right in there.

What does TAG mean?
@thatdrummerwoman035 жыл бұрын
I think of it as literally running after the leader and only stopping when he gives me the sign. Sort of like playing tag with someone you know. But for short, it basically means repeating a specific section of a song.

I've played the drums for 30 years and i haven't a clue what your talking about. Over complicated gibberish
