Thank you for this! I have three unfinished books in my pile and realized they are sitting there collecting dust because I don't know the ending to any of them.

I usually lose interest or can't think of anything. I have 20 chapters outlined of my story The Crownless so far and it's helped. I've also had written some geography on my world to help me. I'm also dealing with depression and insomnia so my writing inspiration goes out the damn window.

I've been watching your videos since this morning because I love writing. Love love, I want to be an author. I always write just short little romance stories but I really want to write a novel. Every time I got an idea and start writing, I stop. I don't write anymore and it frustrates me but coming to your page gives me motivation to do it and I'n going to push myself but still take my time.

This is me. 40,000 words written in the first book in the series. All the outlining done for the next six books, need to kick my butt to get this first one finished. LOL. I have given myself a deadline of the end of October. Let's see if I can do it.

My problem, I'm a perfectionist when it comes to writing. If the writing that comes out embarrasses me because of its convoluted nature, it takes me forever just to get out a paragraph! This happened to me more after maturing as a writer. I found the drafts I produced in the 2000s, were all bad English, garbage, but the writer I have become over years of self-study, produces good English, albeit through a very painstaking process of production and revision. This causes me to slow at completing projects. When an author reaches the Marcel Proust level of writing, they become very critical of their output. I finished two books in the 2000s, all begun from bad drafts! My first book took me a decade to publish! I went through hundreds of revisions, with a draft numbering 68,000 words, a length of a mainstream novel, but the polished final came out at only 44,000 words, a short 200 paged novel. I think writing a good novel is one of the hardest achievements for someone to accomplish in their lifetime. So much is needed to make a novel truly great! A great novel needs a good consistent style that is nearly poetic in flow, good characters, realistic dialogue, and descriptions that transport the reader into a scene. Not many can pull all these things off, except for Fitzgerald in, "The Great Gatsby.". I've read his other works and you can see how good writing differentiates itself from bad writing, as seen in his earlier books, when he attempted to find his voice. To write a truly marvelous book is an art of genius, really. It's all about timing that masterpiece during the best time in your life where the creativity just sprouts out a wonderful creation.

What if you have the plotline set on paper, outline ready, but half way through you JUST lose the interest to write/continue the book? Should distressing happen oorrrr?

At this point, I feel like I've tried everything. I've even outlined my book numerous times but I've just not been able to write after I hit the 80,000 words mark some time ago. I know I can't let this story go and I know the end and what happens after the book, but I just... can't write the book. It's so bizarre.
