I have exactly the same pallet-system compost areas as you (lined with rusty metal roofing sheets to keep moisture in), but I'm having great success currently with burying old 55 gallon oil drums, 10 old metal bath tubs that I've collected, and cracked plastic domestic rubbish bins one third in the soil, half full of woody material, animal manure, partly-rotted compost and 6 inches of garden soil on top.....and plant directly into it. The levels drop in the bins gradually over the growing season and the peppers and tomatoes drop with it, shielded from the harsh Mexico sun and some of the roots make it into the composting material. Basically I'm using the compost areas to grow food so it's a win-win...plus the regular watering of growing crops is finding it's way lower in the baths, bins etc to keep the composting material moist as it breaks down. In summary it is a hybrid of your composting trenches video, hugulkultur, regular composting (but in containers).....with growing food on top. Nice video.

ps there is a system where you can compost kitchen waste actually in your kitchen or garage as you fill it (saves space in your freezer).....several videos up on Bokashi composting.

I just started vermacomposting with red wigglers, but they have to share with my chickens. I use concrete blocks in a shady area of the chicken run, 4 on each side long/wide and 2 rows high. I dump all my kitchen scraps, leaves, dead plants out of the garden and grass clippings in there. They pick around in there, eat what they want, poop, but best of all they keep it constantly turning over. It's all contained within those 4 walls of blocks. I'm looking forward to digging it out this spring.

one question i have been collecting food scraps in a plastic bin which is kind of air tight. Today i opened and saw, white mould or white fungus can i bury them in trench composting. Will it be harmful to the soil.

I think it would be ok but you might want to research further. Something else you can do is put the bags in a deep freeze sealed tight until you’re ready to trench compost. Thanks for watching!

Why would you dig up your strawberries. Mine grow back year after year. All I do is thin them out

Those 2 that I took out were dead. Some of the others in that bed survived but those two did not. The ones that made it are producing strawberries now. Thanks for watching!
