Here is a link to a classic Johnny Miller Golf DVD (If you still have a DVD player) Rated 4.4/5.0 on Amazon. It is a good one. amzn.to/3V12oZW

Johnny Miller was the very best golf analyst on TV of all time. There isn’t one that’s even close to him today! He made the telecast interesting!I miss his insights!

Johnny Miller and Ken Venturi were equals in broadcasting/analyzing golf. I cannot rank one above the other. Both were terrific!

The problem is Johnny was so much better than those doing color today, that they pale and can't even hold his golf towel!

Agree. I really liked his irreverent sometimes you might say, but frequently amusing and always interesting golf commentary.

Johnny Miller is such a nice guy!❤

I like this video of Miller. My head moves slightly off the ball during my backswing. As long as I leave my hands at the top of my swing relaxed and set then all I need to do is shift and turn and the club releases as a consequence of momentum. Better ball striking with next to no conscious effort is never a bad thing! One must understand their owns swing and be able to find a balance within it to improve. It takes a long time to see improvements translate to lower scores when you factor in playing frequency and practice time availability combined with so many approaches to the swing. Own your own swing and learn how to shape shots! If you have a handful of shots you can hit reliably with a score of 7+ out of ten then you’re most definitely on your way to lower scores.

JMHO , transferring your weight to the front foot in the downswing will bring your shoulder forward towards the target. Hanging back on the back foot only produces a fat weak shot. Weight transfer is the key. This guy is a legend, always enjoyed watching him as well as the other greats.

I just started playing last October and I’m 62 trips around the sun. One of so many difficulties I’m having is ball compression and hitting the ball before turf. Great lesson!!!!!
@scooterrockets78158 ай бұрын
You’re supposed to hit the ball before the turf. That’s how you get the compression.
@patrickschaeffersr59637 ай бұрын
@@scooterrockets7815 I understand that good sir. Is my wording hard to understand??

On a physics level the keys to compressing the golf ball are: 1) accelerating the club head as much as possible before impact, and 2) getting all the ‘slack’ out of the hands and arm that deliver the club head to the ball so the transfer of stored kinetic energy in the club head mass is transferred to the ball as EFFICIENTLY as possible. The model to emulate for that isn’t Tiger Woods or some other PGA tour pro it is ‘Iron Byron’ that robot the USGA uses for testing compliance of clubs and balls which literally has a lead arm made of steel but lacks a key feature of human anatomy, an elbow joint which is one of the places efficiency is lost when humans swing the club. The other bigger causes of energy ‘leakage’ are GRIP and CONNECTION of lead and trail arms to the moving BODY MASS. If there is any ‘give’ in the hands or the lead and trail arms during impact-compress-release of the ball then both power, distance and accuracy will suffer. My balls striking improved greatly when I realizes there was lot of ‘give’ in my hands and arms when club hit ball and turf. What helped me realize it was deciding to start over following Ben Hogan’s Five lessons which is how I discover the feeling of counter-torque in legs and arms at address and my arms and hands feeling literally like a welded steel triangle which occurs automatically if the club is gripped with shaft vertical and elbow bent 90° then lowered - which creates automatically creates counter torque between hand and arms via stretching of the forearm muscles and curls fingers tighter around club without contraction of muscles which impedes ‘waggle’- and then pulling the club back from were the lead hand naturally hangs over the lead foot instep to where the butt end of the club is pointing at the belt buckle / navel which automatically connects the lead arm to the body. If a golfer does those two things at address, with a proper Vardon style grip connecting the hands so the club turns over SYMMETRICALLY is possible to achieve an ‘arms of steel’ no slack at impact delivery of club head to ball. Most of the acceleration of the club head occurs around the hands with the hands kept moving around the body with the coordination of side bending of the lumbar spine and the controlled lifting of the back foot to free-up the hips to move past 45° open to target, where they will stop if a golfer’s back foot stays down. The most efficient golf swing is a combination of the bio-mechanics of throwing a ball side arm with externally rotated trail arm and side bend to stay in balance and change to force vector of the ball from tangential to swing radius to forward at the target, what the trail hand guiding the club does, combined with swinging the club down into the ground under the ball with the small bio-mechanics used when swinging an axe to cut a precise V in log, something I learned to do years before learning to play golf in my 30s. It wasn’t until my mid-50s I figured out how to swing it efficiently 😊

That is quite the comprehensive comment. Awesome. I too have been revisiting my swing in my 50's. I've improved a lot but I'm still working on it. I've also been going back to Ben Hogan's Five Lessons and a bunch of other older teachers. My body doesn't quite have Hogan's flexibility or dimensions but a lot of the trail arm and release stuff has been helpful for me as well. Thanks for the Comment! Beauty.👍

Eliminate as many variables as possible. Eliminate the sway variable by NOT swaying. In other words, keep the weight on the leading side, as taught by the Stack and Tilt method, specifically on the superb SagutoGolf channel.

Hang a little on your left side. Almost all great golfers do. His weight never transfers as far back as in his explanation. Watch the full swing. His weight never goes past the instep of his right foot.

Maybe you shouldn’t put. your slide away from the ball. I’ve been using the stack and tilt for over 10 years. I just don’t move off the ball. I put my left shoulder under my chin keeping my head still. It works for an old man like Johnny are a young person just starting out. Quit moving off the ball. It’s a recipe for fat ,chunked hits.

@LowerMyHandicap-today6 ай бұрын
compressing the ball usually allows you to hit your irons further and puts some extra spin on the ball. Here is a good article from golf.com explaining the concept. golf.com/instruction/approach-shots/joe-plecker-golf-ball-compression/
