Giving this a big Proximus style “Yes!” Good job. This is the most reasonable timeline imo. I have always been shocked by those who didn’t figure this out. Most hadn’t seen half of the OG sequels, so that may be part of peoples confusion. This lays it out well. Good job, thank you. Now I can just share this with a friend rather than making something that (again seems pretty straight forward) clear to them.

You forgot to elaborate on Caesar speaking the word “no”. I got what you were going for when you said “or is it”. But you never returned to that topic when you started talking about the reboot trilogy. I understand that the apes said the first word that was spoken was “no “ by Cesar in the reboot trilogy was actually the starting point chronological wise.

gonna have to take the agree to disagree option here, in the Rise franchise the icarus left earth much later than the 1970's departure in the original, and thus while it's certainly a nod to the original movie it's not the same ship lmao

This franchise is full of huge time discrepancies. How is Beneath set 33 years before the original movie despite being set right afterwards. Is it really to hard to accept that Rise, despite one time discrepancy, could easily be a prequel to the original?

@@icemav5740 "accept" is a strong word. i don't like them, but they're unavoidably there, what ya gonna do. the original series would undeniably be better if it had less inconsistencies and i don't think it's a good idea to add more by unnecessarily trying to merge two timelines that were clearly meant to be separate. @xEvilxPwNeR the terminator franchise is an even worse time-travel clusterfuck than POTA, lol i don't think that's the comparison you want to make if you want to convince me it's a good idea to try to link the two POTA timelines.

The original film does explain that humans destroyed themselves with nukes. The humans in the original sequel were disfigured by the radiation and were able to telepathically communicate with each other. They also talked about how a virus killed all dogs and cats which led humans to domesticate apes, which lead them to becoming slaves, and they adapted and grew smarter. But when they traveled back in time, it caused the original events to happen much more rapidly. The way I see it, Rise - War is set in another timeline, a timeline that was created as a result of the Icarus being used to travel backwards through time, instead of forward. I like how they set up their multiverse, but I hate that it's a catch all explanation to every film nowadays. It feels lazy. Just say it's a reboot.

And Kingdom is supposed to come right after War... THEN the OG Apes movies just like you said. THANK you for this. :D Now, there IS a comic series that takes place right after Tim Burton's retelling. I DID like that movie but fail to see how it would fit in this WHOLE time line we both agree to. So, while the time line that I discovered, and was further validated by you and this video, lines up completely, I put Tim Burton's Ape movie right after that and call it a "sort of retelling" because we ARE talking about time travel and all that.

Your opinion that the directors are wrong in calling *their* movies a reboot isn't really an opinion, it's just an objectively wrong statement. If the creators state a work is a reboot, that's the end of the argument. The details you say connected the movies to the others are just call backs to the other films as youd expect a reboot to do. That's all.

Imo once the work of the author/director/actor or artist in general is released to the world, the consumer or viewer or general public are able to take interpretations that may be different from what the artist believes is being displayed. When you look at a pretty picture, your feelings may evoke something different than what the person next to you feels or what the artist felt when making the piece. And in regards to writing/dialogue, writers often put in themes subconsciously that they may not even know that they are putting in, e.g some of the fascist themes of the movie Idiocracy has without trying to be a fascist movie (just one example of pretty much every book or movie having this, look some of the interpretations for the 1930s King Kong up as another). Just because the director sees this as a reboot doesn't quite have enough to say that it's completely a reboot, in fact its more than plausible that this timeline could exist. Is that necessarily what I want for the franchise? Not entirely; the only 3 I'd want in continuity from the og series would be the 68 Planet of the Apes, Escape From the Planet of the Apes and MAYBE Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. Still, there's enough there to read the work that way as a Time Paradox especially due to this series consistent use of time travel. We shouldn't be worshipping the artist but the art as it stands.

During the first film in the reboot, the director himself said that it wasn’t apart of the original pentalogy but something of its own wit similarities to the original. The original has already told an entire story and even loops bak on itself in the fourth film to tie the entire story line together and is completed wit the final film. However, I see a lot of videos that try to tie the reboot to the original films.

Here’s the issue with saying humanity didn’t take themselves out with nukes, what the hell are the humans who mutated thanks to radiation. Like Battle shows that humans were on that path when they spent enough time near radiation, and it’s clear that this timeline was greatly accelerated. So it’s safe to assume if radiation caused this evolution in one timeline, and we have no clue what caused it in another, then the simplest answer would be saying radiation caused it as well. Like sure the guy who gives the info is a known liar, but the series never gives you a reason to doubt that idea. In fact it actually gives more evidence to support him than to disprove him.

I know you said you gonna be ignoring TV shows, comic books and stuff - But this is literally being delusional. "Death of the Planet of the Apes" is a novel that takes place during Beneath the Planet of the Apes from Zira and Cornelius perspective. They learn from Dr Zaius about the ape rebellion, specifically about Aldo's "No". Which they also mention in the court scene of "Escape From TPOFA". Obviously it's worth noting that the novel was released in 2018, but it's still canon.

I just saw Kingdom. I really liked it and am curious to see how this new trilogy will shape out...... Possible Spoilers From what others have said, Kingdom is 300 years after War, and possibly close to 1- 2 thousand years before the events of the original. We see the 'feral' humans are similar to the original planet of the apes but there doesn't appear to be abundance of them, but it is implied at the end of kingdom that there are a surprising number of non feral humans still around and still capable of using human technology. I feel this trilogy, like the others, will explore the conflict that will inevitably arise with the Apes continuing to advance and the remaining intelligent humans being unable to accept that there is no way to 'reclaim' their world. The first trilogy did a good job of adding just enough nuance and twists to what would initially may come across as typical stories to make them interesting and I get the feeling after Kingdom that this trend will likely continue.

Go watch them, as they include some rather important details. I grew up on those 5 movies in the 70s, and have watched them literally hundreds of times each. I want to finish watching this video before I make what I'm sure will be a rather long winded comment (I know how I get when I'm discussing something I really enjoy, and have studied since I was a small child). You ARE correct in something, though.... Rise - War (and likely Kingdom (can't comment as I haven't seen where it fits) could very well be the "original" timeline, with the original films being a second/third timeline created by certain events. Like I said, you should watch the original 4 sequels, and do so "intently", as there are a lot of subtle details that can be linked together. I know that the budget for each successive (and successful) movie was cut, and how that affected the visual quality of the movies.... but try to put that aside, and watch the stories as they unfold. Once you've done that, hit me up and I'll be happy to tell you all of the links I made with them.

What if the reboot is the actual original timeline where Caesar was the original one who said no but years after his death. The new leader of the apes a ape called Aldo force the apes to change history to make him the one who really said no and that Cornelius and Zira if I spell Caesar mom name right only told the false history of what Aldo said was true and the virus was the one that supposedly killed cat and dogs was actually the viris that nearly killed the humans. You see they as in Disney, can say that this reboot is the real original timeline that is destroyed by one human. With the new time where another Caesar leads somehow get what the original Caesar wanted apes and humans to coexist. And they can then show a world where apes and humans live side by side in peace and harmony. Just saying a wild crazy theory and idea for Disney lol.

I’m confused, did they say the movies were all connected or is this just an internet people thing? Going way overboard as usual maybe? Idk. I can’t see logically at all how they’re all connected. Like period. I mean one would think there are millions of channels on KZbin and these ideas conflict with others who like me are thinking uhm no. That mark walberg movie was a one off. So no right there.

You know what, I'm going to do this like I do with Star Wars Reaction videos.... I'll use timestamps and share what I've noticed after hundreds of times viewing the Original Series of movies, and the dozens of times I've watched the newer ones. Also, before going on.... I really don't think the Marky Mark movie ties in with ANY of the others. It was made as a "Make-Up Test" to see if actors in make ups could pass muster, or if the franchise should switch to CGI. While the make up work WAS really good.... the story was pitiful and the third act made no damned sense at all, even once it was explained. Anyway.... 3:55 - Dr. Zaius said nothing about HOW mankind "destroyed" anything.... he said "The Forbidden Zone was once a paradise. YOUR breed made a desert of it." Combine that with Taylor's diatribe upon finding the statue of liberty, it IS strongly suggested that it was a nuclear disaster, and this idea is brought to light in Beneath. But in the original film, it's not fully stated. Okay, I finished watching the video, and you left out MASSIVELY important detail from Battle for the Planet of the Apes: Virgil, the Orangutan "scientist" detailed something that human had theorized long ago (by their calendar), "Imagine time being a highway moving from the past into the future, with an infinite number of lanes. By changing lanes, someone can change their future." (I typed that from memory, so I may have gotten the wording wrong, but the point stands). Also, another "timeline continuity error" exists within that movie itself. The Orangutan that keeps the armoury says that he has kept watch over that armoury for decades, which "supposedly", Battle takes place less than 2 decades after Conquest. (I spotted THAT one on my second or third viewing of the movie back in the late 1970s). So, combine what Virgil said about the highway with infinite lanes, with everything else we know from the "new" trilogy..... (Oh, and while I think of it..... the mission Taylor and crew set out upon was the Liberty.... FANS gave the ship the name "Icarus", and somehow that stuck (and was used in the Serkis trilogy, because of that) and there is a "Project Liberty" video you can look up that was a promotional video made when the original movie came out... and I suggest you watch it.) The "new" trilogy could be considered the "original" timeline, and it fits.... because Project Liberty landing on Earth in (arguably) 3955/3978 (one of those computers is likely to be "off" by its calculations... also, Dr. Haslein was mentioned in the original movie, but actually appeared in Escape as part of the governmental inquiry of the apes, Zira and Cornelius). OH! Something else... they didn't "go through a time vortex"... listen to what Taylor says in the opening: "A ship moving at close to the speed of light experiences a phenomenon called 'Time Dilation'." This is a legitimate scientific theory. Of course, since we don't have the technology to do that (get close to the speed of light), it's still just a theory. But it IS a legitimate one within the scientific community. Dammit, I get side-tracked SO easily in my old age..... Anyway.... they land in the distant future, where apes have evolved to the point of walking upright, their physique becoming more "human" and send three of their own (note: WITH the original virus infection that also evolved over the centuries) back to 1973. With Zira giving birth to Milo/Ceasar, this does indeed introduce the virus much sooner than it would have naturally occurred. Also, being a virus, it spreads to both ape and human, rendering the apes "evolved" a couple of thousand years in a few decades... but not affecting humans as much because it adapted itself to ape physiology. So... the only REAL issue left, is when Project Liberty launched.... it's possible we still haven't seen something that sent advanced technology back to pre-moon landing Earth. Remember, the events of Escape happened just 4 years AFTER the first moon landing (1969). Tie up THAT loose end, and you've got your full timeline explained. Or..... "set of timelines", as we're definitely talking about more than one. Toss in the TV series (which MAY be possible)... but one of the books the astronauts read, showed a picture of New York somewhere in the 2500s. I have the DVDs of the series.... so I could verify exactly WHEN that takes place.... but that's another timeline altogether, since dogs at least were not all killed off. So that's at least 3 confirmed different timelines.

You do realize that just because something takes place earlier in time than another movie it doesn't make it a prequel. The films from 2011 to 2024 are a rebooted new universe from the originals. The 2011 film is not a prequel and the 2024 film is not a reboot.

Trying so hard with mental gymnastics to connect the OG series to the new one reduces the new trilogy to a mere set up. It really is a total disservice to the impact and weight of the new trilogy. This is a new story with new characters only inspired by the original. It's time to move on from the original.

Uh... how can apes who look like apes almost wipe out humanity and then evolve while humans devolve, AND AT THE SAME TIME be introduced from the future alongside advanced human civilization looking like upright apes who then go to war with advanced humans? Those are two completely different timelines. Maybe you should trust the director of the films when he says the movies don't line up, instead of coming up with this convoluted mess of pushpins and string? I honestly can't believe the arrogance of saying "I wonder if [the director] is watching the same movie I am." No, he's not, because he's not harboring hopeful delusions of a perfect puzzle piece-fitted continuity. It's completely absurd to suggest that the people who DIRECTED the films, without the intent of aligning everything with the originals to begin with, somehow miraculously fit everything together. lol
