In a jam you could use the headphone jack with a 1/4inch headphone to rca splitter and use that as the input for the amp. Cheapo pre out. I used this to drive a subwoofer amp for years. Worked fine and once you volume match the two amps, you control it all with the main receiver's volume knob.

How well does it work to take an amplified signal, de-amplify it and then re-amplify it? Doesn't that cause distortion?
@Audiolympian
@Audiolympian Күн бұрын
@@scottweaverphotovideo good question. Adding the device doesn’t de-amplify the signal, it just re-directs it. Also recievers (depending on the model) don’t necessarily amplify as much as it boosts the signal, so when the signal enters the external amplifier it makes a huge difference. Hope that helps. I thought the idea of a pre out on a receiver is that the user can bypass the (usually) junk power amplification of the cheap receiver and use a real separate power amp. The solution presented in this video takes the signal of the built in power amplification and knocks it down to line level. So the power amp of the receiver is still in the signal chain doing its thing. Did I get this completely wrong?
@Audiolympian
@Audiolympian 2 жыл бұрын
No. You’re right. This video was for those that want to use a separate amp but the receiver doesn’t have preouts. So in that scenario this device transfers the signal without down grading the signal so the external amp can power the speaker. With capacitors and resistors in the device that helps the signal to not degrade. Thanks for watching and commenting

@Audiolympian
@Audiolympian 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. Maybe the only drawbacks would be the adapters are not in a case or chassis. And the speaker terminals on the adapter are small so you are limited on the gauge of the speaker wire you use to connect. Other than that nothing else I can think of. Thanks for watching
@pmoul01
@pmoul01 9 ай бұрын
I know this comment is old. With this method (or any line output converter), the receiver's internal amplifier is still being used to output audio. The adapter uses resistors to attenuate the signal. The pre outs on a receiver pulls the signal from the preamp stage of the internal circuit instead of the power stage. Hence the term "pre out" refers to preamp output. Using an avr with pre outs puts no load on the amplifier stage. This allows the avr to run cooler. Reducing the risk of thermal shutdown. The avr then becomes a processor only. Of course, you can still connect speakers to channels that are not routed through the pre outs. LCR pre outs to an external amp for those channels and run surrounds off the avr. More flexibility options.

It Depends on the amp. A good amplifier amplifies sounds not just volume. So you should be able to hear more ambient sounds along with extended volume. For music the instruments should sound more clear and present in the sound stage. And the vocals should be more robust and lively as if the singer is in the room. You missed a few things I was wondering about that Russound - ADP-1.2 Speaker to Line-Level Adapter. Do you have it running in parallel with your speakers? Also if you turn up the vol on the Pioneer amp does that screw with the line out of the ADP? I have the Pioneer VSX 933 updated version from what you have and I was thinking of running a few VU meters on all the channels using a few of those but still run my speakers at the same time. Also what's the Ohm rating from positive to ground on say left channel of that device?
@Audiolympian
@Audiolympian 4 жыл бұрын
No I don’t have it in parallel. I was only using two speakers and it designed for two speakers so I didn’t feel the need to. Also it doesn’t have any problems turning the volume up on the pioneer, the Russound is designed with attenuation. I’m not sure what the ohm rating is I’m not sure the little manual that came with it mentioned anything about that ohm rating. As far as speakers go I have had 4 ohm speakers hooked up but my amp takes care of that it’s stable down to 2 ohms. Thanks for watching

Can you guys please help me out lol. So I have a Sony Dnh790 7.2 4K receiver that I really like, sounds amazing for 400 dollars, but I would like to get a little more juice to my front right and left tower speakers. I’m running a 5.2.2 setup with Polk s55 towers, s35 center, and 2 s15 surrounds, and 2 little Sony Dolby atmos speakers up on the very top corner of my walls. Sounds great but it clan always sound better. My question is if I do this process with the Sony reciever with an outlaw 5000 5 channel amplifier to just give my front towers extra my power, how does the amp know it’s connected to the receiver? I can turn the amp on/off manually which is fine with me. But I’m not sure how the amp and receiver will know to work together to put out the same music/movie. Also will adjusting the volume in reciever still adjust the volume of my towers as well?
@Audiolympian

@@JH-gd4qv the adapter acts like preouts on a receiver. It’s the same circuit engineering inside a receiver, it takes the audio signal and redirects its path to the rca preouts instead of the speaker terminals. So your amp will get the audio signal from the output of the adapter to its rca inputs. Yes your receiver will still control the volume, +-db, and channel setting to your speakers. As far as turning off and on if your devices both have trigger inputs and outputs that is what will turn your amp on and off.

@@Audiolympian ok cool I will have to try that and see. I did purchase this receiver recently off of marketplace and unfortunately it has no remote so I have to buy one on eBay. I should be fine as it is because I'm running two duel 4 ohm 15" Legacy subwoofers wired to 8 ohm in a vintage MTX home audio box that has the mids and tweeters in it from the original. I just replaced the subs as they were old and starting to go out. The subs are duel 4 ohm like I said and have the wired to take an 8 ohm load with a factory crossover inside to protect the mids and highs. The subs actually read as 3.5 ohm per voicecoil for a total of 7 ohm on each sub but no subwoofer is EVER going to read its exact stated ohm. So with that said I'll probably just keep it at 8 ohm as you will actually lose power by dropping down to 6 ohm from all the forums I read. And I was going to ask you, with your Pioneer receiver do you notice how you have to turn the volume up to about 50 before you really start to hear the music at a decent level? Maybe its because I'm just running the two main front L and R instead of having the complete 5.1 surround plugged in with it? Just was gonna ask your take on that.

Too much "waffling". If you're teaching, 1. Introduce the topic 2. Speak on the outcomes of the topic 3. Teach the topic (including demos) 4. Wrap up Then finally, 5. Close out. In that whole video, you only spoke showed the connection point for a whole minute; then spoke on all the equipment you own. Very frustrating..

Can I use the adapters used for car stereos? Tq
@Audiolympian
@Audiolympian 4 жыл бұрын
Good question. I’m not sure. The biggest difference I can think of is car audio equipment is designed to handle 12 volts where home equipment is designed for 115 volts. So a car adapter might burn out being it wouldn’t have strong enough capacity. But you certainly can give it a shot. Thanks for watching

Hi! Now I am a bit confused? Use of the ADP 1.2, as per peter SZ's comments from a year ago, mean that despite hooking u a separate amp to an AVR that does not have pre-outs that the power from the separate amp is not used? Or is it only used to drive the front mains/center channel while the AVR drives the rear surrounds? I have older Yamaha AVR's (HTR-6130 and HTR-5063) so am hoping I can use the ADP 1.2 to connect an external amp since neither of those HTR's have pre-outs? Thanks.
@Audiolympian

You’re correct, the adapters and external amps will run the speakers connected to them. And the receiver will run the rest of the speakers.

@@Audiolympian Ok so then I don't really understand what PeterSZ talks about 1 yr ago on this page. Anyways: yesterday u replied to a question and recommended Parasound as an external amm. There is a Parasound P/SP-1000AV Processor/amplfier for sale near me for $300 Cdn? I am also looking at gettting the Denon AVR-2802ci as, I think, it has pre-outs for separate amp hook-up.....price is $175 Cdn. Thoughts? Thanks.

@Audiolympian

Maybe I can give you a better explanation, speaker wire goes from the receiver to one end of the adapter, then you connect the rca cable from the adapter to the amplifier, from there you connect speaker wire from the amplifier to the speakers. Hope this helped.
