How to Connect Batteries in Series and Parallel - Part 1/2 : Parallel Connections

I have two 12 volt SLA batteries that are both 5.0 Ah capacity. I can hook them up in series with no sparking but when I try parallel it sparks and I don't trust it to leave to connected but I'm wondering if even though it sparks if I should leave it hooked up anyway and use it for what I need. These batteries are in good working order and hold a charge.

Sir if i have 3 batteries SLA (12v 4ah each) in a combination of series and parallel (36v 12ah total) can i charge it with a 36v charger maintainer? Pls reply asap im planning to build my first ebike haha. Im lost

if connecting 2 leisure batteries in parallel, do the both have to be of the same amperage ? i know you said the should all be the same batteries but would the different amperage really matter ?
