I had to switch from GP to DJI because of connecting the DJI mic 2. The problem is once in a while the recording connection fails and you get zero audio recorded on the camera, you have to sync from the mic 2 recording. The problem with this solution is there is no indication that the mic is connected, like the bouncing green bar on th DJI. I would not use this on go pro if it was really important to record on camera. I really want to do a video on DJI freezing and having to sync the audio from mic 2 without anything to sync on camera, it must be manually synced with a clap, which is why we always clap when recording. I have calculated there is a 15-20 frame difference beween the beginning of an empty camera track, and the audio track from the DJI mic 2. Great video, thanks for posting. Larry

So were you having the sync issue with the GoPro 12 or the DJI Action 4? With the GoPro 13, it records on camera and on the mic, plus there is a green bar you can see on the screen. Interestingly, when the recording didn't cut out, I only got the DJI Mic 2 audio on the GP file. However, when I dropped it in the pool and the connection lost, I got the audio file from the DJI Mic, and the audio file from the GP. with the latter recording the sound in that moment when it was underwater.

If you’re using it, and the microphone goes dead or loses connection for some reason, does the GoPro switch back to the internal mic? Or does the rest of your clip have no audio until you change the setting?
@motivatedtravel14 күн бұрын
It starts recording on the GoPro when the connection is lost. This I tested when I put it into a pool. As soon as the GoPro was submerged the connection to the DJI Mic stopped and it switched to sounds of being underwater, then back to the Mic when I brought it out of the water. I assume the same would happen with a dead battery.

Thanks. A very informative video. But I do have a couple questions: When the DJI Mic 2 is connected, are the other (built-in) mics also recording? If so, is this all merged into a single track or are they separate tracks? If a single track, can the built-in mics be turned off? I think you touched on this, but didn't really answer those questions clearly. Or maybe I just didn't pay close enough attention. Anyway, thanks much, very helpful video!
@motivatedtravel3 ай бұрын
No worries mate. So, the DJI Mic takes over as the dominant recording when activated. If it cuts out (like when you go underwater) the GoPro instantly starts recording its own sound. So they're all recording, but only one gets the sound (and that's the DJI if connected). You can go into the settings and "forget" the DJI Mic at any time, but will then have to repair it. You can't just toggle - from what I experienced.

It's certainly not the perfect match. The Osmo Pocket 3 and the Mic 2 work like a dream together. The GP13 and DJI Mic 3 just happened to be in the same Bluetooth space and will behave to an extent, but the range is poor and you do have to re-connect them often (which is easy enough). Battery life is solid on the Mic 2, and with the charging case holding more charge, you'll get a day out of them.

Bad ass bro. I have the go pro 10 + DJI mic v1. I literally just got the go pro 10’s. Current have to edit and sync audio + video it’s another extra step that makes a difference. I got two replacements by GoPro premium subscription. I sent it a go pro 7 and 8, they sent me back a 10 both times with battery. $107 fee every time + $5.30 each month, only paid those 2 months. Good deal. I need the Dji mics to pair wireless but I don’t think I want to compromise that much on audio. That’s the whole point in having the Dji lol Thanks for the video!
@motivatedtravel3 ай бұрын
Yeah the DJI Mic only connects wirelessly through the GoPro 13, but I think you can connect via media mod to earlier versions. Thankfully the GoPro itself does ok audio, it's only really for when you want to be a distance from the GoPro and still be heard.
@RadOpsTV3 ай бұрын
@@motivatedtravel thanks man. But eh, not really. The Audio is really bad from the GoPro, that’s the reason I use DJI mic with it. The GoPros mic alone records ambient sounds suuupper loud, if any cicadas are around… that’s all you’ll hear in the video. Annoying AF. I use the GoPro on my head, so the media mod with transmitter is not an option. Way too bulky. So I currently record on my GoPro 10 and my DJI simultaneously, pressing record and stop on both everytime. The DJI tones down the ambient sounds and amplified my voice, It’s awesome. But I wanted to avoid the post process sync. It’s a pain in the ass having to get the audio from the DJI and look through the files, listen to them all (since DJI isn’t smart enough to have a simple numbering system for the files) just to find a match for the video. Is like playing a stupid game I don’t want to play. I figures the 13 and DJI v2 would solve my issue, but nope! Uses cheap low quality Bluetooth channel and audio sounds like crap, might as well use the GoPros mic. I looked into the DJI cameras, but the quality isn’t there yet and GoPro still blows them out of the water in terms of an actual action cam. DJI action 5 + DJI MIC v2 transmitter is still really bulky IMO and not worth the $399 for the camera. Back to using my gopro 10 and Dji mic v1. Can’t believe they haven’t fixed this issue by now…

@@RadOpsTV Ah, I got you now. Yeah I had to do the same thing in this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4Dcnn2hj797f68. So I was riding the bike holding the GoPro, and then recording the audio onto my phone via Rode Wireless Go II. Less than ideal. I think I will find uses for the GP13 x DJIM2 combo, but you're spot on in that it's not good enough to just rely on wholescale. And the Media Mod is super limiting. Hoping to get the DJI Action 5 in soon to see how it compares to the GP13. But last gen, the GP12 had it for colour depth and stabilisation. The Action 4 though killed it for low-light.
