I actually helped write some of the the software for the original EDIS4, back in the day. The funny thing is, EDIS was supposed to be a "stop gap", only used for a couple of years and only on 4 cylinder engines. Well, you know the rest of the story !

I did this ignition modification to my '68 E Type Jaguar 6 cylinder. It has been the best upgrade to my car in the 35 years I've owned Her, "KoolKat". If you're thinking of doing this upgrade...just do it. I've had my running for 14 years & have only changed the plugs, gaped to .050 & different spark plugs wires, running a XJ-40 coil pack.

Hello J Dwd, I'm working on a Jaguar 1990 V12 (5.3 Ltr) and need to know EXACTLY what to do for the EDIS-6 times two. Please forgive my knowledge it's not as extensive as yours, YET. But I am improving. Is the wiring the same or are there other modifications I need to do?

What trigger angle offset did you use in your tune? Safe to assume 90?

Would you happen to have pictures of the internal modifications to The megasquirt ll v3.0 The manual says to jump JS10 to ignition.

Hi Mostin, Good question... I used a fully assembled megasquirt 2.0 V3.57 from DIY autotune. I didn't need to modify anything. I think the IGBT (high current driver) is actually triggering the EDIS module . It works fine, but now I wonder if I shouldn't be using the IGBT to trigger the EDIS module.... hmmm. Sorry, I don't think I have a clear answer.

hey man, I am in the assembly of an ms2 for a ford bronco, I am going to use LS coils wasted spark and I have a wheel with 36-1 teeth, what sensor can I use that is easy to get and works well with that number of teeth? Do you recommend a GM VR sensor, which one would it be? Thank you
@robotcantina89572 жыл бұрын
Any VR sensor will work. The GM one in the video is recommended because it is easy to fabricate a mounting system and the pigtails are available on ebay/amazon

@@robotcantina8957 thanks man! i will look for it. I would like to ask you another question, is that GM VR sensor for an ls engine?. Could you give me a link of the sensor to buy on amazon? I have searched but there are several and I want to be sure, thanks!
@robotcantina89572 жыл бұрын
@@ricardoalvarez7863 The LS crank position sensor is a three wire type, I'm not familiar with how that type works, it could be a hall effect sensor, Im not sure. The type of sensor I used in the video is from a 3.1 or 3.4 GM engine. Its a two wire type. Pay attention to the polarity when wiring the sensor, it will work if wired wrong, however it will cause many problems.

I have used EDIS 4,6 and 8 in about twnty installs. This "How To Connect.." lacks an important part. Original EDIS installs on FORDs always have a capacitor of 5-25µF on the + 12 Volt supply to the ignition coil. I have experimented on bench set ups and the capacitor is definitely needed. EDIS will not perform well w/o. Also, the HT circuit MUST use resistor HT leads and/or resistor sparkplugs. EDIS will shut down otherwise.

Can confirm. My mk4 Escort has an odd 2 pin connector but only 1 wire going in and is mounted up by the relay box (it's like the VR connector but one of the pins flats is rotated) and appears to be grounded on the chassis. I almost ignored it as I was swapping engines from a carb ESC module to EDIS4 but luckily I was curious what it was so did searched the part number. If I remember correctly this cap is to smooth out any noise for the EDIS module.

Do you have or know of a detailed instruction manual or how to write up on installing EDIS? I'm particularly interested in how to do it correctly for an EDIS-8 to GM LT-1.

It works for ca18det???
@robotcantina89575 жыл бұрын
The EDIS4 will work on any 4 cylinder engine with a megasquirt. Keep in mind that this type of ignition system was originally designed and installed on the Ford Escort so making it fit a ca18det would require custom built brackets and or course a custom hub to mount the 36-1 crank wheel.

@@robotcantina8957 to carburetor???
@robotcantina89575 жыл бұрын
@@juniormendoza2879 The video was intended to help people connect an EDIS4 ignition system to a fuel injection Megasquirt ECU. If you are not using a Megasquirt ECU for engine management then the EDIS4 will not work for your application. For a ca18de with a carburetor you would need to use a Megajolt ECU to make the EDIS4 work on your application. Google " Megajolt and EDIS4 " Sadly, this video will not help you with your project. Best of luck.
