Thank you! Yes, we really took a while to come up with this. As you said it's simple. Yet many don't know about this way to keep the fiber optic nicely stuck to the LEDs so it doesn't come off or shift when you go to put the Fiber optic in place!

Heat shrink works too.
@EvanDesigns3 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie! Yes heat shrink does work. We find the 3/32 fits over a 3mm LED. BUT you can accidentally melt the plastic fiber optic if you heat your shrink tube too hot. Also the shrink tube tends to be kind of flexible so it doesn't hold the fibers firmly. We like this tube we have found because it fits very tightly onto the 3mm or 5mm LED and it is fairly stiff so it won't flex or flop or let the fiber optic fall back out

yes, heat shrink does work and we use it from time to time. BUT you have to be careful shrinking that heat shrink so you don't accidentally melt the fiber optic. We have done that too! That's why we moved to the connector. No more melted shrink tube

Thank you for sharing the information and knowledge. 😊 I have a question, I have seen some fiber optics lights that glows from one end, seems some fluid is applied to stop the light from escaping. Have any idea what do they do to make it glow? Is it some fluid or they use some other technique?
@EvanDesigns3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you for your interest in our fiber optic. I have not heard of some fluid that you can use to paint on your fiber optic. But I would say black paint would do an excellent job!
@gregoryamer3 жыл бұрын
I’m pretty new to fiber optic, but I know that you can buy end glow and side glow strands depending on where you want the light to emit. Black paint or shrink tube can be used to shroud areas also.

Hey just another question that is my fault but why do some of your lights not come with a battery holder it’s ok but just asking I bought one I figured that some people wire them different so maybe that’s why again not a big deal just bought the holder also the lights are great just got them very cool and bright
@EvanDesigns3 жыл бұрын
hi! We have lots of different battery holders on this page: evandesigns.com/collections/wire-switch-more we do not include a battery holder with the lights because we do not know which battery you plan on using. We do have kits though, that include a battery holder like this one: evandesigns.com/collections/hobby-leds/products/chip-light-kit or this one: evandesigns.com/collections/hobby-leds/products/knight-rider-light-circuit?variant=28863901597744

are those plastic or glass fibers? everything i've tried with plastic fibers melts them
@EvanDesigns Жыл бұрын
We use plastic fiber optic cable. In this video we do not use Shrink tube since that CAN melt the fibers. If you check, we are using our Fiber Optic connector. The little connector is nice because it slips tightly over the LED and stays on. evandesigns.com/collections/wire-switch-more/products/fiber-optic-connector there is no need to use heat anymore. And the connector is .50 cents per inch so it's easy to get a test piece and see how it works for you.

Does this work with fairy light leds?

The fairy lights are flat LEDs it would be hard to put a fiber optic cable onto one of those. Sorry!

Do your LED's contain resistors?
@EvanDesigns3 жыл бұрын
hi, thank you for your interest. Yes we add resistors to the LEDs we sell that need them. Some colors like warm white, cool white, blue do not need any resistor to operate at 3 volt. Other colors like red and yellow will need a resistor and we add it. At 5-12 volt we add resistors to all of our LEDs. The LEDs we used for this demo are here evandesigns.com/products/solid-leds-for-hobbies

Hi I just got a lot of stuff from y’all is there any small led lights for like matchbox and stuff
@EvanDesigns3 жыл бұрын
Great you got your order! Thank you for that. Yes we have really tiny lights, our Z is less than 1 millimeter. You can find our LED sizes here: evandesigns.com/pages/information-about-led-sizes The tiny ones are on this page: evandesigns.com/collections/hobby-leds/products/chip-nano-pico-leds and flashing ones if you want to make an emergency vehicle are here: evandesigns.com/collections/hobby-leds/products/flashing-smd-chip-leds we have a small coin cell here, evandesigns.com/collections/wire-switch-more/products/3v-coin-cell-holder-with-switch that can run 10 LEDs. And a super tiny coin cell here: evandesigns.com/collections/wire-switch-more/products/small-coin-cell-holder-with-separate-switch that can run 4 LEDs. Let me know if you have any questions

Doesn't putting white glue in then stuffing the fibers in clog the ends and block the light from shining through? That's what happened to me but it was a different glue than white glue
@EvanDesigns Жыл бұрын
Thank you fo your interest in our fiber optic! If you use a glue that dries clear there will be no loss of light. Fiber optic transmits light, so if you can see through the glue when it's dry, the fiber optic can let the light through. As a test of a new glue, you can put a bit on your worktable and let it dry. Make sure it's clear when it dries and you are good to go!
@unitruth Жыл бұрын
White glue (Elmer's) dries clear but now they have clear Elmer's. Do not use super glue on fiber optics, it destroys it.

I got these fiber optics and they are not bright at all. I had designed a case for a pocket operator and I was running a silicone tube on the sides of the case. Inside was where the fiber optics were suppose to go. I had thought it would have illuminated both sides of the tubing but you cant see anything.
@EvanDesigns6 ай бұрын
Hi Metallica I am so sorry you didn't care for the side glow fiber optic. It needs a strong light and even with strong light it will not be AS bright as an LED. If you did not get any light maybe we can help. I will email you directly to try to troubleshoot with you!
