I use the PS5 Controller with google TV. Same OS I think. Strangely The X-Button on my Pad is the back and not the confirm Button. Did you special remap the controls in any way?

Yes, as long as the particular Android TV game supports controllers. I think they're even grouped by controller support in Android TV Play store.
