Great explanation of balanced vs unbalanced - thanks!. I have a semi-related question: I have a Scarlett Solo and use it to connect my guitar to my PC for use with Amplitube 4. I am getting tired of having to use headphones while playing (I rarely record - I just like to play using the amp variety and options in Amplitube). I would like to know if I can use studio monitors while playing (BTW - I do not play loud - usually.... ;). Can I use monitors (instead of headphones) and if so, are there any you recommend (under $300 for the pair)? Thanks!
@l04d83
@l04d83 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. It's how i have been playing bass. Though idk of a good sub 300$ pair, as it'a hard to find such things. I guess any monitor with a 5 or 6 inch sub would work great with eletric guitar.

ok so i downloaded the user manual of the subwoofer, and jack outputs from the audio interfaces goes to jack input from the subwoofer. then i need different cables, because subwoofer output are only xlr, as left and right monitor speakers. but still don't know if the cables will matche the "balanced" attribute of the system. this is the trickist part of the procedure i guess. i will watch again your video to see if it helps. i downloaded the audio interface manual and output is actually balanced. but in french we say "symetrical" instead, and that's super-confusing 😂
@Housestationlive

so many mistake i made. i though speakers goes in input, i always do that mistake. and did'nt watched for balanced/unbalanced. that was a great tutorial, but the end is technical and i sould appreciate to have more details, especially when it comes to purchase cables. i have monitors speaker that never worked because the cable isn't compatible with the system.

Its so you can control everything from the scarlett. DAWs like abelton, when you select the scarlet it will recognize it as an input and output and you cant seperate them

What is the difference between balanced or unbalanced? Balanced audio uses three conductors to carry the audio signal. Two of the conductors carry negative and positive signals (audio is an AC signal), and the third is used for grounding. With an unbalanced signal, there are only two conductors. One carries positive, the carries negative and is also used for ground. The advantage of a balanced signal is that because the ground is seperate from the negative conductor, there is less chance that radio frequency interferance will get into the audio signal. Generally, +4 db, balanced signal are the way to go for long cable runs. The high gain and isolated ground make for a cleaner, noise-free signal. If cable runs are shorter, there should be no problem with RF interferance or noise on unbalanced, -10 db signals. If you have RF problems in your studio, you probably have some kind of ground fault, and it's a good idea to have it checked out by an electrician. Typical studios have both +4 and -10 db gear, so the important thing there is to make sure gain stages match all the way through the signal chain. The biggest cause of noise and distortion in audio is mismatched gain.

Do you know how to get a signal out of any of the ¼" outputs on the back (3 - 10) on the Behringer UMC 1820? I have tried everything and zip. It would be nice to dedicate an input, for example input 5, to come out of output 5 for a separate monitor. Those outputs are supposedly controlled through the DAW. If you open up the driver window, Advanced, Configure, Volume there are two slider panels - one for Inputs and one for Outputs. No matter how I adjust them - no sound at outputs 3 through 8.

Hey there, im thinking about buying the Hercules Monitor 5 as Monitor. I'm not really professionell, but would you say they are good for 200? Also i want to buy Headphones. As said im not very professionell, i will use them mainly for gaming but sometime also for recording vocals. Thought about the Byerdynamic DT770 880 990, but im not sure what would really be the right, the 990 would be the best for gaming i guess, but not very good for vocals. Would you say the 880 is the one? -> at the moment i have as speaker a Logitech Z407 and as Headphone a SteelSeries Arctis 9

Hey I answered one of my concerns watching this, and now one more thing I'd like to understand and fix is: I like to play guitar over music, and now that I have properly connected my Kanto Tuk monitors to the UA Volt 1, my PC music doesn't sound quite the same. If I flick off the interface and go back to the other optical input I use for PC use my music sounds perfect. The guitar and effects sound fine in both cases... So there's some type of processing or something going on I reckon

I'm honestly out of options at this point if anyone has had the exact same issue please give me advice on how to fix it I don't know if it's latency,the wrong audio driver ,my software,my computer, my focusrite I just don't know please help .

what exactly are those cables you plug behind the focusrite? 2 stripes, both ends the same 6.3mm jack ... not a single music shop in my country offers this kinda cable. All cables are different ends or simply 1 stripe guitar cables. The only one I found is from local online shop for 150 euros for 10 meters and still with 1 stripe, special for studio ...

good vid, but you should make all of your connections and then plug in the input. I've been watching all these vids about audio processors for computer-studio monitors, but it doesn't make sense to invest this much money for what it is. You can just buy a DJ amp or even a home audio pre-amp and run either passive speakers or active speakers, respectively, for similar cost and be able to get higher power, quality, and can expand later. Unless, you are traveling.

Hey Matthew! I’ve noticed in the background you have a Boss RC-505… could you by any chance please explain how to add that machine into the set up? Not too sure where in the chain to put it! Thanks!

I would like to hear my amp simulator thru my half stack amplifier. So just replacing studio speakers for guitar speakers. How do I do that? I heard about getting a power amp to achieve this but I don’t want to damage anything. Please advise.

Could I take a feed from my mixing desk into an interface and take the output from the interface back into the mixing desk? I want to use it for Zoom/Teams in a large hall and be able to hear people on the zoom call passed to the hall and speakers in the hall to be heard on the zoom call? Thanks for your videos which are very helpful

How can you make the audio come out of a speaker connected to the computer rather than the focusrite itself?

I just got studio monitors and when I got everything hooked up, I got this awful crackling, electrical interference. When I played my guitar or keyboard, I could hear them but still got the interference. I learned that this is actually a common issue with a custom built computer. The usb cable transfers the sound from inside the computer to the speakers. I found something called IDefender that actually cancels the ground loop which causes the interference. I ordered it and it's supposed to be in today. I'm really hoping this solves my problem. I'm ready to do some recording again.

Hi Matthew. Apologize me my ignorance , i'm new on setting up a home studio... I tried to connect my focusrite scarllet 2i2 3rd generation to audio monitors presonus eris 3.5 through these cables with two ends ) red and and black in both ends. Red for right side black for the left side and connect on to the TRS balanced side of the monitor and black/left and red/rigth side of the interface line outputs but Pro tools says that doesnt recognize any audio hardware. Did i do something wrong? Should i buy other type of cable?Can you help me please? Thanks in advance.

How would I setup a separate sub with this setup? I’d like to get the same monitors and connect them to my iMac but I also have a Bose sub from my old setup with an XLR connection that I’d like to keep. Just blew out my old Bose speakers which lasted me about 12 years.

old video, not sure if i'll get a reply.. but i bought an XLR condenser mic & scarlet 2i2 3rd gen.. pop filters etc.. and it sounds like poop. my boom mic on my seinnheiser sounds cleaner. how do i get rid of the background noise and crisp up the audio? .. also, is there a way to plug straight into the computer without adapting to usb? .. with some kind of pci-e card? i feel like im losing tons of sound quality and i feel like the interface doesnt power my mic enough

let me first say that I already have the fiio k3 that I use for my headphones, do you think it is a waste to buy an audio interface, for example, scarlett solo only for the xlr microphone?
