This is what I should have been learning in my art classes -.- man I hate school so much
@riss803

i assume in your art class they are teaching you to "draw" and not to "illustrate" (what sycra is doing is illustration, but hes using the foundations of drawing while he works) drawing is a step you cant skip if you want to be an artist. if you start with illustration before drawing, you're going to mess your brain up and its going to give you a hard time really understanding form, light, and space. i used to hate my drawing class too because my interest was in illustration, but the better you get at drawing the more advanced your illustrations will become, so work on both (and maybe express to your art teacher that you wish to learn more about illustrating?)

I've been looking at art tutorials for years and honestly, your how-to's are so fucking good, and probably the most helpful ones I've come across. I'm trying to get back into drawing, and over the past couple days I've watched your iterative drawing guide, and how to connect arms/legs to the torso and I just feel so informed instead of just fumbling in an attempt to mimic someone else. Thank you so much for these

+metroid4787 I could say just the exact same thing. Was practising gesture drawings, and I simply got stuck at that point, in everyone of them, breaking my set time limit. So in frustration and the horrible feeling best compared to a deeply religious man having been abandoned by the gods, I went on youtube and found this. I can live with this.

Could you do a tutorial/guide on studies. Like how to approach a study, different types of studies (anatomy, textiles, paint), what to pay attention to. and any mental art tips. Also ideally how long should a study be plus how often you should do them. Massive fan of your videos, motivates me to work harder and to draw.

Once I thought learning anatomy was only needed for pro artists. And then I wondered why my fiure drawings looked so stiff and unnatural. After I studied anatomy for a while, I've noticed that my figure drawings looked a lot more natural and dynamic. Don't underestimate anatomy lol

Hey Sycra, great video, I've done a lot of anatomy study for my digital sculpting but I still find these videos very helpful as a refresher and also just to see how you simplify these shapes in your line work. Just one note though, at about 36:00~ you say that the traps go behind the lats but from all the reference I've studied they are on top.
