Thank you so much! I have a slope in my backyard that I was wondering how to prevent erosion until we can get what we want to cover it, and the jute netting is a great idea and I would have not thought of it!

We put fencing and walls up around our sloped property but now all the water runs down our driveway and we’re losing all the dirt that was in our driveway! I’m glad I found this video I’m gonna watch it a few times and see what I can do to fix this problem

Miguel, I've loved every dog I've owned, but if they're a digger in your lawn on a bank; if you've never had erosion, it's like what do you do except pull hair out of your head when you have a dog that digs. I'll figure out the dog digging part with help. Love my Raven, certified canine excavator. I'll fill in the holes with dirt, pack pack the soil down & put down a thick layer of good quality cypress mulch over top.

@@jeffreycraven8154 No he wasn't talking about the dog digging a hole. The great dane in the back ground was just about to take a crap.

YES I caught that too. I had to rewind to make sure that's what I saw. Too funny. She had to edit away fast.

Great video. But there was no mention of putting shrubs and trees that are NATIVE to your area. Put just any grass or shrub may help, but it may also cause an even bigger issue with disturbing the near by ecology by becoming invasive or out competing with the natives. One should look for what grew in your area before you were there, and then try and replicate that. Nature figured out what was best for controlling those slopes before we got there and it is different in every area so just planting any shrub or tree isn't ideal.

I had 8” of mulch I’m allergic to, raspberries, and weeds, and ground cover. I pulled most of the weeds and unwanted ground cover out, but need something there. I think I’ll put raspberries back, and maybe herbs. Would that work?

I have a slight slope away from my house in our back yard and over the course of 5 years a lot of our soil has eroded behind our fence. I'm trying to figure out what can be done along the fence that will help prevent erosion and look nice. I'm in Austin so there's a lot of limestone under the soil.
@abbeygray29276 жыл бұрын
along about half of the fence there's zoysia grass but it ends about a foot before the fence. The other half of the fence pretty much just has dirt in front of it. We've always had trouble with grass in that area because it was very shady but we got rid of a few small trees recently so there's a lot more sun available there now.

4 inches compost 4 inches wood chips! Spread on the lowest point! The rest fill with compost and sow the toughest grass you can find with the deepest root system. You should see results by the end of the summer

I am sorry ma'am but how does this particular grass grow? At 0:07 I want it to grow on my land because it smells beautiful and keeps the ground from washing away. So please can someone tell me what type of grass to grow.
@gunshotglitter844 жыл бұрын
It depends on where you live. You need to use indigenous grasses to your particular area. Find out what Ecological Vegetation Class (EVC) your area is in and plant indigenous or native plants as they have the deepest roots best for holding the soil together and stopping erosion. Ask a horticulturalist.

My grandparents live in the small community of Giro which is directly next to the white river, a third of the town is already gone and the river already swallowed the neighbors barn, is there a way to stop the erosion process and preserve what's left of the community?
@gunshotglitter844 жыл бұрын
yeah they need to start planting deep rooted indigenous vegetation as the indigenous and native plants have the deepest roots and thats what holds the soil together.

HI! mam.i am growing an organic garden.my 5 hectare of land is on the bank of a small river tributary coming from glaciers far away.my land is plain but I want to prevent it from erosion when there is heavy raining.this land is approx. 5 feet above stream .the stream is not deep.PLEASE TELL ME THE BETTER SOLUTION THANKS.
@micah_lee3 жыл бұрын
There may be local government offices such as land management offices that can help with this. They know your specific region. I’d suppose the land used to be pretty good at keeping itself from eroding. Either that, or it was a part of an area that is just volatile and is disturbed by the stream. But in any case, ponder what it probably used to be like (head up stream and down stream to areas that have not been developed perhaps, and look at what it is like.) I’d suppose that native trees and plants held the soil there. If you leave the area alone, many native plants will come back, and over a couple hundred years it should be back to the best plants for that specific area and you wouldn’t have ruined it too bad. But maybe you could plant certain native trees and plants. (thats why I suggested the government offices before.) It may be easiest to just let the land go back to its original form and build your garden on the flattest area you can. BUT lets say you really need a garden, i’d suggest building retaining walls and terracing the ground that is bare or adding ditches parallel to the slope. That is how they do it in agricultural fields in the US.
