How to control Hair Algae in your planted aquarium? - Simple Solutions [2019]

In this video, we will see how to control Hair algae or green algae in your Planted Aquarium. No planted aquarium in the world is without any algae. You can never get rid of hair algae or green algae. You can only control hair algae in your tank, none of the algae can be completely cleared out from your aquarium.
Algae is very important in your aquarium just like your lights, co2, and filter.
Hair algae or green algae appears in your planted tank in the start-up stage of your aquarium, after the brown algae or diatom algae.
Hair algae occur right after or sometimes during the cycling period, therefore, frequent water changes in the early stage of setup.
The chances of hair algae or green algae occurring in a planted aquarium in the early stage of the set up are mostly due to high lighting, high or low dosage of fertilizers or most importantly If you do not have a co2 system at all.
But what if it is already present in your planted tank, in most cases, you can remove most of the hair algae or green algae with a brush or with the hand itself, a post that keeps your lighting period and co2 dosage in control.
If the hair algae are too much in your tank, spread all over the tank then you should consider doing a blackout that turning off your co2 and light for a week and covering it with a black cloth. only having your filter running. This method will definitely control your hair algae but the algae Blackout option can only help you in the long run only if you set the ideal conditions for your planted tank after algae blackout treatment.
Hair algae or green algae indicates that its time to add some algae eaters like Amano shrimps or cherry red shrimps.
Black molly babies are the best hair algae eater.
If you have more healthy and fast-growing plants in your aquarium you can easily control hair algae.
Algae on glass or algae on plants can simply be controlled by brushing it off and frequent water changes in the early stage and ideal co2 and lighting period should control hair algae in your tank.

The white layer is fungus, its natural, you can remove it manually using brush.

Dear Susan, there are a lot more parameters that you need to look at, like the lights, filter, soil etc. Now if you are using low light plants then also plant heavily and make sure you have the parameters correct, water changes are scheduled and add the right amount of fertiliser

Hello, I was facing black beard algae and green hair, black beard algae is completely gone after reducing fertilizer and light. Thanks for your help.
