Bro... I've been professionally tattooing for 19yrs, and the amount of bs and inefficient and incorrect info being pushed and taught online (even by elite artists sometimes) is insane... BUT - this is BY FAR the best and most in depth explanation and showing of how ink flowing from the tube works ACTUALLY. Thank you so much for doing these videos, they're really fun to watch and definitely pops some light bulbs even in my head of 19yrs tattooing lol. I always say the day you quit being a student and think you know everything, is the day you're failing as an artist.

Thanks for the positivity. We really do hope these help. If you have any idea for some videos, let me know. I'm getting over a trip to the hospital right now but will be back to making some new content soon. 🤘

I really appreciate you breaking this down. I’m very much a newbie so breaking everything down and giving reasons as to why attacking a tattoo a certain way will achieve optimal results is reassuring. Thank you good sir.

this helped me envision flow more than any of the other dozens I've watched. And those had good tips, too. But this one made me "see" it.

Hi, I have noticed that many professional tattoo artists pull fine lines (1-3rl), and others (traditional style) push thick lines (5-18rl). pushing the needle pierces the skin more easily, but is it easier to overdo it?
@BetterTattooing2 жыл бұрын
There is always a tendency to overdo the tattoo by running backwards because the ink flow is going to be inconsistent. This happens regardless of grouping size. Making sure you use the tools correctly will result in a better tattoo overall. Think about it this way - You can build a house with only a hammer, but how competent will the end result be? Can it be as good as someone who is capable of using all the tools at their disposal correctly? I could, but how efficient will it be in comparison? Here is a question to you - What does it mean to be a “professional” tattoo artist? Does the term “professional” mean you are better or more skilled than another? Does it require someone to be somewhere, know something, or own something that sets them apart from another? Anyways, thanks for the question! I hope this answer is good enough for you.

@@BetterTattooing Thanks for your videos! They are very interesting. And sorry for my English, I'm from Spain. Professional was not the most appropriate word, I rather wanted to say popular-famous. As for the fine lines, an example would be ivcrk_ (ivan cubero lopez), I did the lines just like him (big stroke, high voltage and fast pull), I haven't even tried to push the fine lines, I think that if I push them I will do too deep (more difficult to control the depth)

Hi, just curious, if one can’t push somehow. Turn the cartridge round, hole on the side now facing to you or downwards. So you can pull again? Probably not an option?
@BetterTattooing2 жыл бұрын
Good questions! Pulling defies the natural flow of things so unless you contort your hand to create a proper angle for fluid delivery, its going to result in the same inconsistent flow dynamics. This doesn’t mean you can’t spin your tube around and push lines all day, it just means you won’t have the same consistency compared to running things forward. Does that make sense? If not, shoot me an email and I’ll write you a novel, or a post on the website that explains it in more detail

@@BetterTattooing lol, have you ever seen a left handed person using the ‘claw’ ? Is that what you mean with contort? ;-) and yes a post on the site please. Thanks.
@BetterTattooing2 жыл бұрын
@@DavidToken oh. I know what your talking about. I include the "claw" in a class about different hand positions to utilize while tattooing. It works, but you still need to push that needle into the skin. Id you want, I can go and make a video today to explain some stuff for you. If you do want one, make sure you tell me EXACTLY what you're wanting me to show. I got time today, so we can crush a couple if needed🤘

@@BetterTattooing it’s strange, I’m a leftie myself,but don’t use the claw.I’m mirrored right handed . But if I push the needle somehow in my head I can’t see where I’m going,that’s why pull my lines. If that sounds logical,probably not,lol. Come to think about it it’s mostly sideways.
