Prosopis juliflora (also known as vilayati keekar in India) is an invasive plant species, which makes a large percentage of the 'green' cover in the Delhi NCR region. It spreads very quickly, doesn't allow other plant species to grow and is harmful for the local environment. What are the ways to control it from spreading?

Sir, 🙏😍thank you much for answering my question and for giving clear explanation about it. Iam 👍sure sir I will conduct experiment of planting 10 keekar with 50 native trees like banyan in same area and I will observe it as you said . 🙏Thank you again for giving this real time expirement for better understanding sir.. Please keep posting more videos on nature ie. transfering knowledge and it's importance from present generation to upcoming generation is a only way to preserve humans from scarcity and problems... I belong to the southern Tamilnadu wherein the ecosystem is naturally semi-arid and shrubs are predominantly these keekar in agricultural lands. Planting enormous amount of Peepal and Banyan trees doesn’t make sense in some of these areas because they are either agricultural plot or residential. People have acquired these land just for the sake of his real estate value :) but they failed to realise unless they use it they going to make this wasteland with these keekars mushrooming around. Would you please mind suggesting other alternatives as well? Something that might work for these agree and residential plots I can’t imagine planting a banyan tree in a 5 cent land space

Hello Baba Question : I would like to plan & plant forest in Thar Desert on a larger scale, the conditions are similar to Rajisthani Desert. The land is barren, sandy white and saline ground with scarcity of water & whatever ground water is available has high salt contents. Please advise what is the best options to consider ? PS Is Safaida / Eucalyptus an option ?which can also help with local livestock feed and maybe with bee farming. Thanks

Babool, Khijri, Roonjh, Jhar beri, Elephant Apple. These are the options. You have to make blocks or small sections of land for plantation (like raised beds). Mix with organic manure, wood dust, cocopit, dry mulch. Plant sapling in long nursery bags with removed base. After that. mix organic matter and mulch.

Please don’t attempt to plant trees in the Thar desert and other grassland ecosystems. It is a misconception that only forested areas are productive. The planting of trees in landscapes like grasslands and deserts does more harm than good.

This is good for forest and urban, suburban areas. But what about grasslands? You can't plant a banyan or Peepal tree in the middle of the grassland. Grassland is supposed to be without any big vegetation but the Propis is now absorbing moisture and degrading these grasslands by making the soil incapable for growth of grasses.

But how to remove them from public property, the government won’t allow. And how to ensure that legal actions are not taken. Is there any organisation doing this ?

Prosopis plants are really wonderful. They are the healers of our earth and their role is to help return our world to forest.

@@cyrusp100 The worst invasive plants like Prosopis are wonderful plants where they are native. The best plants for restorations such as anti-desertification need to consider more than just the apparent drought tolerance. Tamarix and some Prosopis species can be incredibly drought tolerant, but are not as efficient at water use than what many think. The only reason why they survive is because they grow a root system equivalent to what a very large tree would have. The best option is to find the most water efficient plants, where they can be planted closer together without competition being as bad.
@cyrusp100
@cyrusp100 Жыл бұрын
@@anotherhuman8211 Prosopis species are incredibly water efficient and good for the groundwater table. They have extremely deep roots which can go down 20m even sometimes 50m. This breaks up the soil and subsoil and makes it easier for rain to infiltrate deep into the soil. Then every 10 or 20 or 50 years when the flooding rains come the majority of the floodwater can be soaked into the ground instead of running off to flood another area. In this way over hundreds of years prosopis will actually *raise* the groundwater table and improve the health of the soil eventually allowing the damaged area to return to forest.
