Being a structural engineer, my advice is - please ensure the roof slab and other structural members are designed for the jungle load. In the present case, the tree bins are on walls. Still the slab is subjected to shear.

We have planted following in our terrace ...mango tree, guava trees (2), kinoo, cucumbers, tar, chilli, Bougainville (4), orange trumpet, chipkali bale, cactus garden in small drum, and few more. Also, musk melon seeds to be sow in this week. So sir, I see my terrace future as yours... Thanks for the update video and clearing the concern for weight and water issue.

Summers are cooler, the winter are bit chilled, but we wear sweaters and socks, and sleep quite warm with comforters. Resort living for the whole year, the birds and squirrel sounds through the day too common.

Please have the building inspected by a structural Consultant. Such enormous weight on a concrete pillar less building is a risk. Rest everything is awesome..

Though this is a terrace building with beams and pillars, by shifting the weight to the walls, we are ok. People built an entire house on the top by shifting the weight on the walls. We made garden instead. Approx. weight of the jungle may be 30 tons, within the limits. The wall will crack first if too much weight, yet to see a crack. I will perish before the building perishes, so no worries!

Looking at any hanging canopy, the 1st thing that comes in my mind is snakes 🐍🐍🐍 And then lizards, toads, bees 🐝. But the plants look very good 🤗

No snakes here, whatever is there including bees and lizards, quite safe. Even the weaver ants bite if touched, but no issues. Even snakes would be no issue if you learn how to handle them carefully with love and respect.

He also has an open composting of kitchen and garden waste. Maximum of compost is what he uses in the bin along with 2 inches of mulching

People are making garden in terrace and here I am having a land about half acre surrounding my house and doing nothing other than watering whatever plant n trees 🙄 high time for me start utilising the area..
