Hello and thank you so much for the tips. Truly helpful when one has just dived into watercolour. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thank you once again for taking the time to show us "beginners" a few tips that no one else does.

Oh man..the amount of times I dropped water off my brush onto my painting 😩 something I do to wet my paints or paper, or to ensure clean water with which to mix is to keep a spray/misting bottle at hand. It's also good to have for creating texture in landscapes.

It certainly is Morgen, as you know we very often learn the hard way! Hopefully my tips, will give people a little shortcut here and there. Paul 🎨

Useful. And timely. Away at a holiday cottage with only one water pot. Might have to find a glass in the cupboard for the rest of my painting!! Useful to have all the water tips in one place.
@TheDevonArtist3 жыл бұрын
Ruth, knowing you I'm sure you will soon have another water-pot at hand. I have a habit of saving jam, pickle jars with a wide base to prevent them tipping over too easily. Have a good time! Paul 🎨

I have trouble with keeping my paper and my paint just the right wetness. Does climate effect water control? I live in the desert and I feel like my paint and paper dry extremely quickly and I have a very limited window where everything is the right dampness. Any tips for painting in a dry climate?

My main problem is painting water as a background. It always comes out muddy or too light :(
@rebel51403 жыл бұрын
Thank you Paul! You're do's and don'ts are an inspiration to achieve mastery much quicker in my work. I particularly liked your instruction of making snow in background of your wolf with a round stiffer acrylic brush as opposed to a regular watercolor round brush. Still working on when to know timing of when to apply the paint to wet surface.
@TheDevonArtist3 жыл бұрын
You are very welcome Rebel. You know it's all down to timing and believe it or not how warm the room is in which you are painting. Test on some scrap watercolour paper first though. Paul 🎨

Yes, spot on, and as you know it's happened t me many times, even after 40+ years of painting I still do it. LOL Paul 🎨

Can you tell us what paper and paint you use? Sometimes I watch these videos and just think I don't feel like my paper and paint work that way/flow like that. It could be climate (Australia) or materials or maybe it's just my technique but I'd be interested to compare. I love your artwork and your videos, thank you.
@TheDevonArtist2 жыл бұрын
Hi Danielle, yes different paper can react in different ways with the paint, plus as you said, temperature can also play a part in the way the paint dries, too warm, and it will dry very quickly. Ice blocks in a thin, flat container underneath the painting board can help. As for the paper I use, check out my personal website on the materials I prefer, you will see the paper, paints, brushes and everything else there, and it may give you some ideas.
