This is a very nice and useful project, your work is clean and clear,but you are telling some wrong things and missing some points which I would like to point out if you don't mind: 1) the resistor in parallel across 105 is 1 Mega ohm, not milli ohm, 2) voltage does not reduce in parallel connection,it remains same...hence the 1 Mega ohm is used just to discharge the ceramic, 3) the silver side of a diode is - ve, when you give +ve bias to the p(black) side,then only we get output...and hence we get +ve dc output where the two silver ends of the bridge rectifier are joined....similarly -ve dc output where two black ends of diodes are joined, 4) the output will not give shock if you connect the live(phase) to the open end of the ceramic....to avoid mistake, use a 3 pin plug such that the phase and neutral always remain connected to fixed positions of the circuit, 5) the zener must not be less than 1 W, 6) for safety one fusible resistance of low value ,say 10 ohm and at least 1 W should be used in between the phase line and the ceramic, 7) there should be a resistance of 10-15 K in parallel to the filter capacitor to discharge it properly.
