How to convert a .STL to a solid

I can't get this to work. I'm trying to modify some spaceship stl files from thingiverse and I go to make solid, choose merge, it chimes and the chimes again 30sec later but it did nothing! It still shows as facets in designspark and not a solid

I was pulling my hair out, trying to figure out how to do this. I came to KZbin, looking for help. Figured I'd find it with DesignSpark. Your video wasn't popping up because I wasn't asking the right question. DAMN THE GOOD LUCK! THANK YOU!

1st do a shrinkwrap command. You can also try reduce command in facets tab and then use shrink wrap to obtain a uniform mesh then convert it into solid. that might be more helpful

I think this is in the paid version? I went hunting for it and found some videos using what your are discussing, but my DSM only has five tabs: FIle, Design, Measure, Help/Resource
