Great video Mark. I have a Zenith console I scored at Goodwill waiting for me to tear into, and this is exactly the conversion I wanted to do. Thanks for your hard work on these videos.

Really enjoy your video showing your conversion process. I picked up a nice console that I want to restore, But in the process of finding it I saw several UGLY tube consoles and like the idea of building a small tube amp out of the components.

Thanks for the video. You explain so a beginner can understand. Please keep them coming.

i like the fact that it has screw-type speaker terminals and not the slide on type that Magnavox put on their amps

Great video, looking forward to the next one, Thanks for sharing

Bare chassis can be screwed to some scrap lumber or old palate wood a bit bigger than the chassis to act as bumpers during shipping. Kind of like a mini-crate inside the box. Prevents the bent chassis. Thanks for letting us look in on this conversion/restoration.

Hello, Mr. Blueglow, great knowledge, thank you very much! What is the blues-intro music, I think it’s very nice indeed... Greets from Holland, victor.

i just got more parts for my 8600 friday, i also plan to replace the tube sockets

I agree re: the capacitors even though most of them may be ok

Schematica are helpful when it comes to the power supply so you know which pin the B+ and such go to

That amplifier was made or designed in 1963.. According to the bottom of the first page of that schematic...By 1969 everything was transistorized..

On the schematic, there's a 4mfd cap between the 12" speaker and the 3.5" speaker. Is that for a high-pass filter, or something else? I'm getting ready to refurb a 1950s Voice of Music tube reel to reel, and noticed something similar in its schematic, but as in the Silvertone the cap value seems wrong for a high pass filter. Thanks!

the resistors on that list are the same as several in my Magnavox 8600

I've got a 1948 Stromberg Carlson mono console that I bought a few years ago and had a friend that brought it back to life and working well. (But not the turntable). It's AM and two other obsolete bands. Rough exterior and not that big, but it's very heavy. Chances of finding a matching 1949 Stromberg amp are nil. Since it's been gone thru already do you think it's worthwhile to remake this mono tuber into a usable amp? Great channel. Thanks

Thanks Mark! I’m running through the same model and after looking over the the Sams file, I can’t find a full list of the resistors? Any ideas?

why is there a wire from the negative FB to an outside the chassis connection.

Excellent video. I have acquired a vintage claretone console stereo as well as a '70's Sansui Tube stereo. Is it feasible to convert or use components from these units to build a guitar tube amp?

This amp has the STRANGEST B+ circuit that I've ever seen! C73 and C74 appear to be a capacitive voltage divider. X5 and X6 diodes are NOT connected like a typical full-wave rectifier (might be a voltage-doubler). the 'red-red' secondary winding appears to be mislabelled 117V' (6:10)

why do polypropylene capacitors sound better than ceramic?

I find this whole process fascinating but I know almost nothing about electrical things. Where can I learn how to do something like this?
@jackfuck73095 жыл бұрын
I learned through circuit bending, cheap and easy way to figure out what each component does and how they work together.

I got my schematic for my Magnavox 8600 on ebay

That's overkill to fully wrap a component lead on a tie point; just a J hook is fine; IMO and how I do component replacements like that with point-to-point stuff.

My video was somewhat blurry. It's SPEAKER OUT (DUH)

Find my video about testing capacitors, I cover three types I use.
@paulcargo42336 жыл бұрын
The cap testing video was very helpful. I am restoring a 1964 Ampeg reverberocket and the chassis space is so tight I would like to test some of the smaller caps in circuit. The limitations you point out for various meter types is leaning me towards sending the unit out for the more intricate point to point work. Thanks, Paul
@dharmakissoon6 жыл бұрын
what does that tester do ?
@jackallen62616 жыл бұрын
He was checking resistance on the individual resistors, so it is an Ohm meter (Multi-Meter to be precise)
@larryshaver35686 жыл бұрын
do you know what year that was made, my guess is 1959 or'60
@dannyalvens5418Ай бұрын
On the bottom of the front page of the schematic it states 1963..
