Cool repurposing idea. I'm probably going to try a top side application for the downpipe so I can easily open the lid and submerge my watering can so as to fill it much quicker.
@PhillWyattProjects Жыл бұрын
Cheers Chris that sounds like a good idea. Faster to fill a can submerging it rather than waiting for it to fill from the tap.

Thanks ...given the draught you will certainly have more visits to this video.. I am going to add to the front of house near the exiting bins.

Great idea with the wheelie bin as water but

Thanks 👍 They hold a good amount of water too!

Can you put a watering can under the tap? I could not see if the butt is high enough. The type of watering can is also critical - some have a the hand rail in the middle at the top which makes filling up difficult. We need to save more rainwater (and compost) so this video is very useful in showing how new ideas work.
@PhillWyattProjects Жыл бұрын
With mine I put it on a couple of slabs to raise it up. I found the tap to be too slow anyway so I open the lid and dunk the watering can in for speed.
@philipashbourn1538 Жыл бұрын
I put the can in at the top as well.

Just an idea you might like but I attached an old sprayer to the inlet pipe to filter away moss and leaves as it saves cleaning the inside😊.
@PhillWyattProjects2 жыл бұрын
Oh you mean to act as a kind of filter? Yea sounds like a cool idea 👍🏻

This is really helpful. Thank you. Please could you let me know where you got the tap from. Thank you. Jennie

I actually got the tap from Poundland years ago. You can get them from places like Wilko and B&Q.

Just a thought, might automotive (petroleum/oil-based) grease attack/degrade the plastic over time? I think I'd be tempted to go with a silicon grease. Thanks for the video, very helpful :)
@PhillWyattProjects Жыл бұрын
I'm really not sure about that. It amazes me just how many substances seem to damage plastic in one way or another.

How did you go when the bin was completely full, any fears of it cracking due to water pressure?
@PhillWyattProjects4 жыл бұрын
When it's full....if overflows. I've got it sitting at an angle to the excess water flows out the front and away from the wall. But usually, I empty it into the pond so it's not too full. I don't see a problem with water pressure. Although I think too much direct sunlight on a very hot day could cause the plastic to distort. Mines not in direct sun light.
@ibrstellar10802 жыл бұрын
@@PhillWyattProjects Have you considered connecting a second wheelie bin to catch the excess as my tank holds 300 litres and fills within hours of heavy rain.
@dandtdavies39992 жыл бұрын
Why didn't you connect an overflow near top, that sends water to drain if full
@richardrhoden74454 ай бұрын
Thought it would be better to drill the hole, and place the tap closer to the bottom of the container so the entire amount of water can flow out through the tap.
@PhillWyattProjects4 ай бұрын
@@richardrhoden7445 you could but then the tap is more likely to get blocked by the silt that collects on the bottom.

My wheelie bin leaks water. Anyone know how to make it watertight?
@PhillWyattProjects Жыл бұрын
I am not sure about that myself.

Great video. Thanks for the idea. Where did you get the tap please? It seems more sturdier than the usual ones? Thanks :)
@PhillWyattProjects2 жыл бұрын
Thanks👍🏻 believe it or not I actually got the tap from a £1 shop a few years ago. I don't think they sell them now. You can get a decent one in stores like wilko.
