thanks for your content. i have an old P&H AC welder i want to convert to AC DC. i have the bridge rectifier and an old Folney welder i will get the plug ins for the leads from. the Folney also has a choke i will modify to use. i watched another conversion video but he didn't explain his work.

Hi. Have a question sir. The CHOKE wire runs off the positive leg of the rectifier correct??? Also. Does the choke wire always remain on the Electrode weather your welding electrode positive or electrode negative ???

Nice job 👍

I think you have 2 chokes. A transformer only works with AC electricity.

What does the choke do i am thinking about converting my old Dayton ac welder

smooths the electric flow with AC you have 60 full cycles with the bridge rectifier you do get DC but it isn't smooth .it still has half cycles the choke smooths the cycles. i have an old Forney AC welder that has a built in choke but that choke seems to only smooth the lower ampereges. that choke is wire wrapped around an iron bar.

@@erniew5805 ok thank you so much haven't done mine yet just got the 400 amp rectifier

@@jwillis1978 i worked on it today. got the case off the P&H .figured where the bridge rectifier would go. i got a heat sink and a fan under it. it will hang off an angle iron attached to the heat sink. i took the choke off the Forney and stripped off wire .must have been about 200 rounds of 12 gauge wire. the bar is about 1 1/4 inch square and is laminated. this was only used on the lower amp settings. i will wrap it with bigger wire and it will sit on top the big transformer.
