Thank you so much! Your videos are simply the most intuitive and easy way to understand and learn these concepts! I know that’s not easy to prepare them but.. these are really appreciated.

This is by far the best and easiest presentation I have ever seen about the CMV. Thanks for the good work!

Conversion of meteorological visibility to RVR is not be used: • for takeoff, • for calculating any other required RVR minimum less than 800 m (1/2 sm), • for visual/circling approaches, • or when reported RVR is available • for cat 2 and 3.

Good job on the subject! I would just add that in the case of LIDO charts, all minima values are CMV unless there's an R or V next to it.

Thank you, great explanation. I´ve seen tables with RVR/SM/METERES equivalences...so what are they for if you should do this procedure? I thought memorizing those values and applying the equivalences was the correct way. Hope someone can clarify this for me.

Thank you very much for the video. But there are few ambiguities that may be a result of Jeppesen and Lido different interpretations on this subject. For instance, according to Lido interpretation, the term "CMV" denotes the result after the conversion of a visibility into a RVR. Thus, a CMV is always equally high as a RVR. - "RVR" and "VIS" are called "limiting values". That means, those values must be reported by and received from ATC in the respective format (as RVR where "RVR" is shown next to the minimum, or as VIS where a "VIS" is shown next to the minimum. These values may not be converted!). - Only "CMVs" may be converted. A conversion is only possible from an ATC reported VIS into a CMV (RVR) but never from an RVR into a VIS.

So if required RVR is 550m, I will take the 800m figure, and divide it by 1.5 to get 533m as the required met visibility?

There is one more rule that was not mentioned (or maybe it was but i missed it). By regulations it is no allowed to convert visibility from an RVR reading.

Hey Luis, thanks for watching. I think we did discuss that at 5:35 into the video unless i miss understood you

At 5:00, should not it be 800 * 1.5 = 1200m? :)

Hey, great video. But there are few things that are a bit confusing for me. Firstly, you also can’t convert vis to RVR if you are shooting for cat 2 and 3. Also, as I understood from the ops, you can’t convert for REQUIRED RVR of less then 800m, it’s a bit ambiguous still for me. For example if I’m going for CAT I and required RVR is 550m, it still doesn’t matter as I think I need to RVR of 800m minimum via conversion. Please correct me if I am wrong.
@propilot74286 жыл бұрын
Thats right. You cant convert to lower than 800M so you will never be able to convert down to 550M. Thanks for the comment

Really good explanation, but I didn’t understand that you converted 600 visibility to RVR and than you got 900 but you can’t convert 800m visibility to RVR. Or the result shall not be lower than 800m? I didn’t get it
@propilot74285 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mateus! When you convert Met Viz it does come out to a higher number. So 600 viz became 900 RVR. Its the RVR (or the calculated result) that is limited to 800M not the viz. You can use 800 viz and it would come out at a higher number for the RVR which you can still do. Hope this helps.
