Lali Cicek no not at all! I am a convert and the Midrash says that when Hashem gave Abraham many descendants, some of the souls were lost and the converts are the lost souls coming back to Judaism. Furthermore, it’s a belief that when the Messianic age comes, everyone will come to worship G’d in the ways Jews do, so everyone who isn’t a Jew will convert. Converts are treated as complete equals and I have never been treated as less of a Jew :))

My husband converted from 1989-1990 while we we were dating. Yes, it took a year because our rabbi wanted him to live a full life in the footsteps of a Jewish person during holidays, celebrations and even shiva. He attended synagogue once a week, learned some Hebrew and read many books. He and the Rabbi learned together about a wide variety of topics almost weekly. David continued past this year in his learning and went on to learn chanting of the Torah. We participate and enjoy Jewish life as a family and individuals. I would suggest not speeding through conversion and taking the year.

"How to Convert to Judaism", now this has to be your best video topics yet! Either though I am not Jewish( I am Catholic as a matter of fact), I find it interesting how people go through the process of converting to different religions like Judaism. One of my best friends, who is really great, was born and raised Jewish( has a Ashkenazi Jewish background) and then converted to Catholicism later on in life. By watching your content, I believe many people, including myself, can gain so much of a clear understanding about Judaism even if there not Jewish since you explain things so beautifully and clearly. So excited to see the rest of your videos on the Jewish conversion series. 90% of the people in israil support to make the process easier but the people that control now conversion thing are haredim small groups of people that wear only specific cloth and can make the process harder to you they not represent the Judaism and my ancient culture ,reforms Jewish transform our tradition into mockery ,those 2 groups can confuse you, if you want to be Jewish you most do all our holiyday tradition and shabt, and don't eat things that Jewish don't eat

@@mydivineiamchannel9654 After years of studying on my on and opening my heart, I was advised to investigate what denomination of Judaism - Conservative, Reform etc. spoke to me. Then I was advised to contact a Rabbi and make an appointment. After that I attended services from January - September/20 on my own to explore and familiarize myself. While continuing Zoom services that September, I started my studies with a group and my Rabbi which went to January/21. February 9/12 I made the joyful commitment and was allowed to convert.

You are wearing a happy summertime blouse. Glad you explained that you know people, even in your family, who have converted. It helps make it more comfortable to those viewing the presentation that you know what they experienced as part of their process of conversion. You are so good to remind people that making a mistake is not the end of the world. I remember one time in school taking a letter from my French pen pal to my French teacher and showing her a mistake and asking did I have it wrong. She said that I was right and had to remember that native speakers of a language don't always use it well or speak it in the more formal fashion. It was a reminder that as a native English speaker, I can make mistakes when talking or writing. This is true of everything in life: we err, we misspeak, we do not know something. A huge part of getting on with life is freeing ourselves from the bondage fear of errors imposes. And no one is converting in order to disrespect a religion, a culture. That would be nonsense. It is so important for non-Jews to understand that among the 4 historical religions of the Levant only Christianity and Islam are evangelical and proselytize. So Jews and Zoroastrians are not likely to do or say anything to promote their belief system/practices, though it can be difficult for people in the process not to get encouragement. You are so right that those feeling urgings in the direction of conversion need to read perhaps a good Israelite/Jewish history or a book on the process of conversion or a book about Jewish cultural norms, particularly in our case in the U.S. with the sephardim and ashkenazim. Even go to a few sabbath suppers or seders at a friend's home or go to a local synagogue on Saturday where they use English when not in prayer or doing readings, just to dip a big toe in the water and see how it feels. Even to read a good book by someone like Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel can be a good entry point because he was a major theologian and moral thinker of the 20thc. Even his statement that the Bible is God's book about man, not man's book about God, is an important concept to be willing to consider and perhaps embrace as an initial idea of what the starting point may be for understanding holy writ, comprehending Hebrew Scriptures. In any written work, who the speaker is and who the audience is are crucial to one's learning. So you learn about the 4 primary sources of Hebrew Scripture and we know humans wrote it down, but the essential spiritual question could be, "What is God trying to tell me about myself and all other humans." It is a different perspective from getting nitpicky about are we allowed to touch a football made of pigskin. One may choose not to do so, but it is not a deep spiritual, philosophical question. It is more a piety one practices for one's own personal discipline, following, hearing. There are so many different sects of Orthodox and they have differing customs, etc. Pretty much Reform is Reform and Conservative is Conservative, but then there is Reconstructionist. What a good overview with appropriate links provided for those who want to explore this faith.

I'm actually interested in learning more about Judaism. I was raised a Christian - but, as a Christian I always felt an affinity for Judaism. And when the pandemic lockdown began last March, I decided to familiarize myself with the Torah by finding rabbinical lessons on KZbin. Well, I found their lessons to be extremely enlightening - and through their lessons I learned about the Noahide Laws (which really caught my interest) and I started thinking about conversion. However, realizing the enormous decision conversion is, I figured (once the pandemic is over) I would look to join a synagogue as a Noahide first - but I'm not sure how to choose which Jewish denomination would be right for me. How do I choose between Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist (not even sure what this one is) or Orthodox?

To shorten a long story . There was a heathen who said ,I will convert to Judism if someone can teach me all of the Torah while I stand one foot . The man stated this to Rabbi Shemmai . Shemmai pick up a rod and began to beat the man; how foolish ,it takes years to learn the Torah. The same man went to Rabbi Hillel and ask the same thing. Hillel responded . That is simple . While the man stood on one foot ;Hillel replied, Love God with all your heart and anything you don't like , don't do to anyone else. All the rest is commentaries . I had my mikvah set for April, then the lockdowns started. After 1 year of work and waiting, I was devastated to know that I had to wait longer since I was so looking forward to that moment. Last month (July) I could finally go through the Beit din and I had my mikvah in the ocean! I am a Reform convert and after hearing so many negative comments about the movement I expected the ceremony to be very superficial, but it was one of the most powerful and meaningful moments of my entire life.

I’m contemplating converting to Judaism. I’ve been Christian and I been pegan and I thought about being Jewish when I was a teenager. I am 22 know and I’m now dating a Jewish man. im a patrilineal jew. i was baptized (christian) at birth but do not attend church and havent since i was very young. I loved the resources you provided in this video. My great-grandmother was Jewish from Hungary (her surname was Beres) and she married my Mexican great-grandfather, coincidentally surnames Perez. We kept a small percentage of Jewish traditions growing up but my mother and her sisters converted to Christianity back in the 90s. After digging deeper into my genealogy and discovering my Hungarian ancestry, I decided to convert (part spiritual journey and part need to continue the Jewish line) but since it’s been so long and according to Halakha, my mother isn’t considered Jewish since my grandmother is Roman Catholic, I had to go with the whole conversion process. I spoke with a reform Rabbi who accepted me as a Jew but I wanted to join an orthodox sect. The orthodox rabbi is currently having me undergo training with reading and understanding Hebrew and observing all the holidays and traditions. I’m hoping I can get an appointment with the Beit Din soon I think I’m ready. I’m so excited to start a new spiritual chapter in my life.

I've been in conversion limbo since late 2019. The local mikvah was under construction when I officially finished everything my Rabbi wanted me to do before converting..... and then quarantine happened so i couldn't use the mikvah. I'm this close 👌 to having my mikvah in a river/ lake

Iv'e always saw myself as Jewish, as a child I was raised around Jews and went to a Jewish school so I was pretty familiar. It became my own custom. Though the rest of my family isn't jewish and just recently Iv'e thought about actually converting..do you have any advice??? I'm stuck in quarentine so I have no idea how to find a Rabbi or anything like that. Iv'e wanted to convert for years but never had the opportunity because of how its seen where I live currently, I'll be moving when possible back to where I'm originally from with a big (or bigger) Jewish population. I'm also a lesbian and in a pretty bad home situation right now concerning homophobia. With Christianity I always felt like a burden , not as if i ever considered myself christian though , but not a single Jewish person has ever been hurtful to me regarding that (or really, ever in general) . I was born and raised as a muslim. Growing up i was pretty much a skeptic and eventually became an atheist(explains my username). However my life always revolved around abrahamic religions morals and lifestyle. From my diet to the way I carry myself. Eventually I realise i love the abrahamic religions and read more into each of them. Which I came to a conclusion I really love Judaism but because clearly, by my looks I can be identified as a muslim and the tensions of jews and muslims today, I have never gotten the chance to talk to a rabbi. Ive tried through friends, emailing a synagogue. No one got back to me. I wish whatever that was mentioned in this video was that easy ive tried doing many things thinking maybe if i put in more effort god will see my interest and lead me but Im still the same. I get that we need to do lots of studying but, I dont know what more do i have to read. It has been 2 years now and I still made no progress and it upsets me so much. I just wish to have someone guiding me so I can feel that I am connected to this religion and somewhat acknowledged.

So I just discovered your channel and am already hooked! In particular bc my husband and I are also Conservative Jews and share your mindset on a lot of your perspectives. I love the way our movement remains halachic but frames our Judaism in the context of the modern world. I also tend to feel more religious than my husband, and Conservative Judaism gives us that place where both of us can feel comfortable. I had to chime in here, though, bc I'm also a Jew by choice! My experience was definitely a little bit unique bc I had always known and spent time with other Jews, and my (Jewish) husband and I met when we were still teenagers in college and had been already together 25 years when I decided to convert! So all the holidays, simchas, services, songs, prayers, foods, and expressions were already familiar to me (but a lot still wasn't). I was raised in a non-Jewish German family, where we celebrated Christmas and (sort of) Easter, but we went to church only once a year on Christmas Eve. Although I'm super close to my family, I definitely always had different leanings and beliefs in many regards. They often expressed ways of looking at the world that I didn't share, some of which I've come to discover to be very Jewish. In many ways, I think I was born to be a Jew, even though I wasn't born a Jew. So I think I was lucky in that my conversion was not so much of an adjustment as for some people. I will say I meet converts who are so Jewish that you'd never know they weren't raised Jewish, and I've met those who still don't seem to feel totally at home even after twenty years. Me, I'm a bit obsessed with all things Jewish and probably was all along, only since my conversion, it's gotten much, much worse, haha! Some congregants who've converted, however, decided to lay low once they completed their conversion. It's all good either way. The best way to be Jewish is the way that fits you. I have so many experiences, stories, and insights to share about conversion, that if anyone has questions, please feel free to DM me, and I'll share with you first hand what everything was like. Also, shout out to AJU! I was actually scheduled to do my mikveh immersion there (bc there is no non-Orthodox mikveh in San Diego), but bc my husband wasn't sure he could drive with me, it was three hours away, and bc I really wanted my rabbis to be part of my day, I decided to do the immersion locally in the world's largest Kosher mikveh -- the Pacific Ocean. A totally different experience than the enclosed serenity of a traditional mikveh and yet, as it turned out, extremely meaningful, bc as I was being heaved back and forth, up and down, in that powerful, massive, salty water, I felt so small and humbled, as if I were in the belly of G-d, and that really drove home that my conversion wasn't all about me but about something much bigger. Love it that you got the basics there l recommend also sharing the lack of acceptance in other sects if you convert to certain sects. And the need to keep all the laws as a convert and just how many laws there are vs someone born Jewish. There is a lot of requirement to prove your commitment for converts to Judaism that isn't required of people born Jewish. With that said converts are welcomed once fully converted and commited though conversion is highly discouraged.

Converted to Judaism myself. The first thing I'd definitely recommend is to visit different communities and try to make Jewish friends. I found that the hardest thing as the Jewish community tends to be a close group (sometimes the gossip may recall high school, at least for me), so I wouldn't have anyone to spend holidays with as my family of course does not celebrate it. I don't know Marion if you want to host people, I kind of have my personal list of "dos and don't with conversion candidates" and maybe I could send it to you. It's ironic and not at the same time.

I'm 19, I feel a connection to jewish people and to judaism. My reason for learning about this religion and ethnic group isn't for the sake of marriage. Luckily I'm a male, if I convert and marry a jewish woman my children should be accepted in the community

I am a Seventh Day Adventist Christian. This is a denomination that has chosen Saturday also known as Sabbath as its day of worship and is awaiting the second advent (second coming of Jesus). I feel a sense of connection to Judaism. When I read the Bible, I find Jews as the people who make the stories of the Bible. Talk of Abraham, Moses, Jacob , Joseph, David etc. God purposely established the Jews to lead other nations to His truth. From my perspective, Judaism birthed Christianity and I salute Jews for that role.

Very interesting! This is something I’ve been curious about. I think I’ll have to look into this more as an option. I hope people will be understanding of my religious trauma, though.
