It is always asked to replace the IR filter with a plan glass filer if you're not going to replace it with a more specific frequency filter. You simply removed it. Could you elaborate more on that and is this correct or not?

I’m just getting into astrophotography and I’m not sure about astrolodding my camera because I always wouldn’t mind the ability to do normal day time photography....what’s stopping you from removing the infrared and then just popping in a clip in filter that blocks ir on the front so you can switch between the two? Or am I understanding this wrong lol

Very useful video for D70 full spectrum converting. After just remove the internal IR cut filter in D70, it means that CCD of D70 has no protection in front. When changing lens, the CCD behind the mirror seems to have possibility to touch dust. Do you notice any problem or dust issue of your D70?
@kasrasahami30363 жыл бұрын
hi you mentioned about the focusing issue but you did not explain what to do to fix it. this is exactly my problem. after I removed the IR filter of the sensor, my camera can not focus the near objects anymore. I mean why?! I only removed a thin glass! why it can not focus anymore ?! even not manually. so sad. what should I do to fix this?
@MarcOggier5 жыл бұрын
Great video, with the image test at the end. I am about to convert my old D5200 to Full Spectrum. I read that some people encounter focusing issue after removing the IR filter, and not replacing by an equivalent glass thickness. Did you add any anything after removing the filter ?
@sandb18673 жыл бұрын
You can add plain window glass (or from a picture frame), but this will reduce UV sensitivity. Another option is to get Spectrosil 2000 quartz glass which will preserve most of the full spectrum. However cutting glass or quartz is tricky business. Did you go through with your conversion? I'm contemplating doing the same to my D5200.

Hello there, tried it today and then when i put everything back my camera lcd screen was saying "clock" then i set up the date and then it wasnt there anymore, i then shot a few photos, and when i go to the thing to see pictures it says "Folder contains no image" edit: i open it again to check if everything was good and i seen nothing different, still the same issue pls help i don't want my only camera to be dead...
@user-jn4ih2sy7j4 жыл бұрын
Well, apparently i found the cause of the issue on the website "ifixit" in the comments: fr.ifixit.com/Tutoriel/Nikon+D70+CCD+Board+Replacement/2099?lang=en " Great instructions. One important note: When re-installing the CCD board ribbon cable into the CCD board, the cable will go into the connector about 2mm and feel like it's seated. However, the cable must go 3mm-4mm into the connector. Otherwise, you will get a "This Card Cannot Be Used" error message each time you depress the shutter button. Ross Edmond - 09/01/2013 " But now my D70 Control panel monitor and LCD monitor doesn't turn on anymore, have any suggestions?

And by the way you're not talking about this cable on the video, i had to find it and remove it myself cus you didn't say it in the video to unscrew the sensor thingy.

i got D80 i just done the mode. works fine but i can't focus . even manually . every picture that i take is blurry , i attached 3 different lens , in the viewfinder seems ok after i took the photo is blurry , wtf is wrong?
@ColtonCampbell6 жыл бұрын
Mihai Alexandru it shifts the focus plane when you remove the filter so practice with it and see which way it shifted. Let the camera autofocus then manually shift the focus in or out and take some test shots to see what works I shoot at f7.1+ to help keep sharp focus because of this, and take several shots of each scene to get a good one. If it's a big issue, you can get your camera recalibrated

@@ColtonCampbell Had the same issue ... i shimmed the sensor plate (under the crews holes) with 0.5mm washers ans it was ok. The new glass HAS to be the same thickness as before ... i dedicated ONLY one lens to the IR body : 50mm and i never change lens otherwise the problem arises again with a different focal length (lens)

Very interesting video, thanks for doing it. The question I have is on the removed IR filter glass. Is the glass itself treated or is there a film applied to it? My thought was if it had a film applied to the glass then it could be removed and the glass reinstalled.
@ColtonCampbell6 жыл бұрын
Hmm good question. I'm honestly not sure! I think if you could simply remove the film though more people would be just doing that

I read that you Have replace the IR filter with a plain glass or the it wont film correctly, something to do with the lens and the internal setting that compensate for that lens being in front of the image sensor

Only issues I've experienced is the focus shift due to IR light being on a different focal plane than visible light, but the focusing system tries to use the visible light to focus

Thank for posting this video, very helpful. I have a few questions and I was wondering if you may know. I have a Nikon D3200 and I am trying to convert it into full spectrum IR by removing also the IR cut filter. My question is that once it is removed, would this work at night as a night vision camera? Would it work for taking pictures of the sky at night? I am trying to get the best night vision quality I can get. Do you think it will work? I wouldn't want to go through all this process just to find out it won't work. Thank you.

KOOSMYK no it won't help very much, unless you use a strong IR LED light but that's for close range stuff It may give interesting effects when shooting stars tho

How about levelling the sensor when reassembling? I’ve converted a few canon DSLR cameras to full spectrum and they have spots to measure the position of the spring loaded sensor board to ensure even focus across the sensor surface. I haven’t converted any Nikon cameras but assume they would also need this doing too.

Did you just removed the ir filter screen without replacing it with ir glass?
@ColtonCampbell6 жыл бұрын
Jay-Ar Deganos yeah so it's full-spectrum sensitivity unless you do a visible light cut filter on the lens, which I use sometimes. Keep in mind it'll slightly shift your focus plane so I shoot at higher f stops, f7.1+ to keep the scene in sharp focus

Jay-Ar Deganos that is really odd... I'm not sure what would cause that, but I don't think it's the IR mod. Perhaps check the compact flash cards pins, try it on a card reader and see if you can still write to the card
