Great tutorial and I just learned something new with the CHD file format being able to shrink the games. Yea so many of the games take up a lot of space so to shrink them down is really helpful!

Hello, thank you for the tutorial. my adhd was giving me issues even tho its straighforward if you're 🚨 having trouble 🚨 i recommend you do this download the proper folder > Decide to place it on desktop or in games. don't need to put it in your system folders or whatever, you want it very accessable >open the folder and install it properly >the process ISNT opening a program and choosing a path etc >the process IS placing 1 or more games inside the folder youre installing >then you click "CUE or GDI to CHD" and it literally does the rest. you will see the command screen with task completion percentage and compression rate, but i dont see a time reamaining catergory for me.personally it was really straightforward. You must check your .cue files, make sure name in the .cue files named same as the .bin file

I've had batch scripts for to and from ISO and CHD but I could never find one for BIN/CUE, that alone helped me a ton.

Chdman now let's you use the command -createdvd so you must use that instead of -createcd in case the iso file is from a dvd like most PS2 games, keep in mind that PSP games will noticably lose performance when compressed done by the -createcd command.

Sweet, I never had an issue covering my PS2 ISO games to chd before also I never compress PSP games however I didn't know we could chd them now.

@@DNAMobileGaming Yeah me neither I never noticed any issues using PS2 chd files in the past, I guess the only difference is in how the compression is done. But PPSSPP doesn't like chds made by -createcd for some internal reason and it's very noticeable, nowadays it'll give a warning of "bad chd" when you try to load one.

well you have probably found out yourself by now but just in case anyone else has the same question. simply put, since each disc has its own cue file, you create one CHD file for each disk

Well if you create a .m3u folder/playlist all you need to do is select the second disc when Duckstation asks for it. Chd is just a compression to save space mostly.

This is my almost daily problem, i wanna download some files or something and since i have an "itel" phone, the main files manager is a system called *phoenix* and the problem is that when i download a bin file it just simply say "can't open a bin file (with a sad emoji)

quick tip for you that the program is closing and doing nothing. you can edit the .bat file and just write on a next line "pause" so it doesnt immediately close but you can see what is the error and figure out

Yeah I don't want to confuse people though that's why I also edited the ability to use iso files as well. The reason they're getting these issues is pretty typical and the major one is the .bin/.cue files are wrong or they didn't get the correct files.

@ZachX888 this is to convert them to chd. There's a tool you can use to convert to iso but unless you're playing on original hardware there's no reason to.

The thing is when converting, it messes with Retroachivement. If you don't care about that then it doesn't affect you.

Just put all your bin cue files in the same folder then click the bat to CHD. It'll do the work I ran over 30 games at once doing this went outside cut the grass and came back to it done.

Did you copy your game file over properly meaning both the .bin .cue file OR the .iso file and make sure these files are not corrupt. I've tested this with multiple games 100s actually now at this point and haven't had a single issue with any of them so I'm just trying to assist. If it's automatically closing then you must not have the proper bin cue files or iso games to convert.

I cannot get this to work with Saturn bin/cue games. It makes a CHD file, but then it's unplayable in Yaba Sanshiro 2. The chd files I download from archive work fine, but when I try to convert my own bin/cue it doesn't work.

Don't use it in Yaba Sanshiro that application isn't good imo. I've tested the same games (12 to be exact) with the Beetle core on Retroarch vs the Yabasanshiro 2 paid application and the Beetle core didn't have any issues at all.

It very well could be your CHD make sure your bin/cue files aren't corrupt and that you extracted them correctly. Assuming they were in a 7z or zip prior, sometimes if you don't extract files using extract all the data gets lost.

@82fx- no only the 3 types mentioned I guess PSP can now support CHD too but at the time of filming it wasn't a thing. Converting games through Dolphin is possible if the game is an iso

You skipped step 1: Make sure that your emulator or device actually supports CHD files before converting all your other files to this format. If you're using an older emulator, it may not support CHD.

@@DNAMobileGaming You'd be surprised how many people would convert their collection first and just expect them to work. You wouldn't think someone would do that, but I've seen it happen. I can't remember the details, and it probably wasn't game related, but I know I saw a series of forum posts once where someone followed a guide to convert a bunch of files only to then find out that they couldn't use any of them. I specifically remember someone asking them why they had converted them all, and they said something like that they just thought it was a better format. I THINK it was a forum dedicated to video files and formats. I know it sounds like I'm making that up, but this video triggered my long-forgotten memory of having seen something like that happen.

@lurkerrekrul I guess step 1 would be to make sure it works however I did mention this works for Saturn/PS1/PS2 games. I guess PPSSPP supports some chd but I don't recommend it currently because the conversion doesn't seem right for some games.

Did this help then or was this guide the hard part? You can do multiple games at once too I let 10 games run converting them while I was doing other stuff. That's when I deleted all the bin cue iso files and transferred the chd to their own folder.

Doesn't work for me. Any of the "chdman.exe", "CUE-GDI-ISO to CHD.bat", "Extract CHD to CUE.bat" and Extract CHD to GDI.bat" files just open command prompt and execute something so fats I can't read anything and just closes the windows in less than a second. No CHD file is created. What the hell is going on?

You probably didn't put your bin cue files in the folder correctly. I've mentioned this, also if those files aren't correct it'll also do this.

@@DNAMobileGaming But I did. I managed to convert the files to CHD by first converting them into ISO, then ISO to CHD. But RetroArch didn't recognize any, so I'm thinking the problem must be with the files I got.
