Lol, I really wanted a horse when i was little. So my mom got me lessons. I had connected really well with a 16.2 mustang my trainer had named Thor. She had to move to Oklahoma, and asked my parents if they wanted to by Thor. They did lol, he was my birthday present and I still have him lol… end all be all, having knowledge and being reliable helped to ensure that even though it was out of the blue purchase, they were confident in my abilities to own a horse and take care of it. This video actually has a lot of really good pointers. Love the dorms btw, glad to see you back Justine!

Hi Justine! I love your channel so much, and I have been watching for years now. I've been riding since I was 5 years old and I am still using the lesson horses at the barn. There is nothing wrong with that, it's just that I want to be able to go out to the barn all the time to ride and help out. I volunteered to help out but my trainer never really got back to me on that. I lost my confidence in riding a of couple years and didn't ride for months. I also, recently started losing my confidence in riding because I didn't like the mare that I used so I didn't even want to go to my lesson. I switched back to my favourite gelding at the barn and then I was happy again. My mom feels that I'm not consistent enough with riding, even though I never quit "officially" I always got back on the horse, FOR SIX YEARS!!!! So she doesn't want to start a lease or anything like that. So please tell me what you think! p.s. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Most people end up having a falling out with horses at least once, and that was your time to take a little break. Keep working hard and stick with horses, then maybe in about 1-8 years you’ll get to lease!

another tip is to ride any horse you can at your barn. i jumped at the chance to rehab a thoroughbred coming back from injury at my barn and now i get to ride her every day :)

Leasing is not an option for me… At my barn owning a horse plus lessons is MAX $750 a month if you’re budgeting, but a PARTIAL lease is $1,300 and, needless to say, is way out of my budget lol. I did partial lease at my old barn tho.

There may be ones outside your barn that are cheaper. My own horse is about 200 a month and we’ve found a actually decent instructor who does lessons for £10. The only problem with loaning though is that some owners are horrible and just let you get attached to the horse before ripping it away for literally no reason. I loaned a lesson horse and it can also get quite frustrating because no matter how much work you put in you’re still not the main rider. It was kind of heartbreaking seeing her getting worse and worse as she got overworked more and more. They end up picking up habits it in other places as well, apparently mine was kicking everyone which wasn’t something I ever experienced but we still got blamed for it.Compared to my own horse who only got better and improved day by day.

I wanted a horse because I wanted to compete in comps such as sj, and then training at a barn, I have somewhere that me my sis and her friend go to for horse riding we are beginners!! Believe me I would LOVE to buy my daughter a horse but I simply cannot afford it right now. I grew up riding and I did eventually get a pony of my own but I had a single Mom raising 3 kids and the only reason we could afford it is because from the time I was 11 to 16 I worked at the barn 5 days a week to pay expenses. I was also incredibly blessed with a trainer and her Mom who knew me when my father passed away and would help pick up vet bills and extra expenses just for me to live my dream. My pony cost S2500 and I purchased her with money my Dad had left me. My daughter has been riding for almost 3 years but she only rides 30 minutes a week. Its the only decent barn around and even that is wayyy more expensive then what my Mom paid for my lessons many years ago. Unfortunately she is not old enough to work at the barn yet and a working student position is not an option at our barn. Her Dad is more well off then I am but he is not horsey. He always says he will buy the horse if I pay everything else and as we all know, buying the horse is the cheapest part! One day I hope to be able to afford it and make her dream come true but in the mean time we are looking into half leasing so she can ride a little more and get more experience. Trust me kids, its not always just because they dont want to buy you a horse. Its expensive and a MAJOR commitment. Anything could happen and horses dont have health insurance! Just like a house pet if they are injured or sick that money comes out of pocket. As an adult I would never buy an animal without being a hundred percent sure I could afford to care for it completely AND save its life if the worst happened.

The thing for me is, It's not even that I just want like any horse it's this one pony. I ride, and I'm one of the only ones at my barn that actually studies horsemanship and learns to take care of them. Theres this one pony and I love her so much. She means so much to me. Everyone is scared to ride her because she's very quick and very green. I've fallen off of her, she's bolted with me on her, and she only responds to reins because she used to be a cart horse. They're selling her because they say she's a bad lesson horse. If I had her I would fix her. She's only three grand but nobody still wants her. I like literally need her so bad and I need my parents to understand. I love that baby with all my life.

I already convinced my parents well at least my dad my mom has not a problem as long as I’m responsible I already agreed whit my dad. Im just typing the details for myself actually but yea Grey/black horse 15.hh not really necessary but i like bigger horses A big build ( most horses here are mixed breeds so i dont want to get too specific) Not older than 10 years old (ideally 5 or 6 years old) Knows a few things about western mounted games. That’s still amazing! You can do so much training with a dog that’s similar to horses. Environmental exposure, obedience (like liberty with horses), fitness. This is a great success and can help you show them you can be ready for a horse too!

I am 11 turning 12 and I’m trying to convince my mum. We used to own a pony when I was really little. I wish I was older so I could do more with our pony.
