Honestly, I am glad that you spoke out about this side of equestrian world. I have been experienced it myself and I knew it wasn’t okay. For me as rider, I like to see horse as my team and work together. Unfortunately, trainers don’t see that way often because they see them as lazy or telling me that I wasn’t trying hard enough to give them more legs. They often like approached closer to the horses that I was riding to make them scared and go faster. I always get crops, but I am trying so hard not to use it or hit them hard to make them happy. Before my second to last riding lesson, I rode this same horse and I realized that he was afraid of me because I was told to hit him hard with crops and it hurts my heart to see that. Like okay, I will not use it and use more legs. I wish I can find a way to encourage him to be more forward, instead of being all of harsh equipment. I was on IHSA team recently, but I have to take a break from it dues to my ankle pain from kicking constantly. I don’t know if anybody have been experiencing like painful in your ankles to point where it became numbs from heel down all of time. I was volunteering at IHSA horse show at my barn and oh my god, those people don’t treat you very well. They are so arrogant and rude people. I am not saying all of them, but mostly. But, I am deaf myself and I often need people to get my attention by waving or whatever. I remember I was holding one of horses while another rider get on him, her teammates and coach were giving me death stare and ask me often to tighten the girth like ummm okay? Like are you telling me I am doing horrible job at tighten the girth? I knew I don’t want to, but I have to please them or whatever. I got asked like three times to tighten the girths on two different horses like dude, can you just do it yourself? I didn’t know about IHSA rule for that until someone told me. But, they are unappreciated 🙄🙄🙄🙄. I am often struggling with riding because mostly of my trainers want to push me to my limits until I can’t reach anymore and they just abandoned me like garbage on side of road. I just don’t know how can I learn more about horses beside riding because every barn expects you to pay money to learn more about horses like why do I have to pay same price as riding lesson to learn more about horses. Plus, I wish that people in equestrian world would learn more about horses, not just riding them. They are good partner to work with. That why I love them so much.

There’s this barn close to me that is huge. I’ve never been there, but I know lots of people who have worked there, boarded there, and showed there. According to them, all the horses are drugged regularly and can’t even be ridden without being drugged. I find this absolutely disgusting. This one girl who competed their said it was impossible to compete against that barn because all the horses were drugged into perfection. A guy I know who used to work there said he saw this girl try to ride her horse without drugging him. That horse was so used to being drugged that we went completely nuts. Like if you have to drug your horse to ride them, maybe don’t ride. Some barns are just crazy.

I used to do IEA and you will see how shows and judging will be rigged because the team hosting or paying the judge is the team that keeps winning. Or Riders who have THAT last name will win even if they didn't ride well over riders who may not come from money but had beautiful rounds. It's one of those scenes where you can't go expecting to try and win. Some judges will do it fair and other will drop you to last for the most minor things.
@RandomEdits923
@RandomEdits923 4 ай бұрын
For the last one, ive actually experienced this. So I currently ride in IEA as a middle schooler. In one of my flat classes i noticed one of the trainers from a different barn was cheering the same way every time one of her students was in the ring. I thought it was weird but i didnt really think to much about it, I just thought that she cheered a certain way. Then i noticed that when the places were announced, that every rider for that barn was getting 4th place or better. My coaches didnt think they rode that well and I even overheard a different trainer say “yeah I dont even know. She didnt ride that well but at the end of the day it’s the judges decision not ours”. I now realize that was what it was. Certain cheering for a better place.

There was even a time I was tacking up this barn manager’s horse for a lesson and and I was unsure of how tight something should be. My trainer was having me ride this horse with double reins and a chain under her chin. (I don’t use any bridle like this since I quite my lessons) Because this horse was the barn manager’s horse, I asked her if the chain was too tight. (I obviously didn’t want the horse to be uncomfortable) The manager just looked at me and said “I don’t know. You’re the one who rides her.” And then kept walking. Like dude. This is your horse. I’m just a student. Your horse is being ridden with a chain. Don’t you want to check and make sure it isn’t too tight?? Just found that absolutely baffling.

THIS!!!!! Omg the equestrian community can be foul! So glad more people are starting to talk about this. I’m huge into horse welfare and at the college im at i see it slide through the cracks again and again and again, I’ve seen people slap these college horse and I’ve seen some of the lectures using ropes and whips to get the horses to do what they want. It’s just sad. AND my BEHAVIOUR AND WELFARE teacher- litterally her job to teach us about welfare- admitted to using cruel boots on horses. I was like what the heck

Thanks again for the awsome video!!! I personally witnessed someone slap and whip their horse in the showjumping ring. I was at a horse show and there were a ton of horses there. (This was my local barn) there was this new horse, who was clearly stressing out, trying to return to the barn. Then it was their turn to jump. They entered the ring, did their canter circle, and then the horse stopped. Someone had started to take pictures with the flash on. Then the rider started kicking and slapping the horse as if it were the grand nationals and her life was on the line. Like girl, chill its just a local competition, your horse is way more important.

It can be very hard to watch especially when you know it's wrong. But it's also important to have in mind that maybe the rider sometimes doesn't know it's wrong or is being taught to do that/told that's how you get "control" of the horse. This was one of my examples in my "Biggest regrets as a beginner equestrian", because as a kid I was taught to whip and kick and spur. I was taught the dominating method. I'm not defending the actions as it is definitely wrong. And not saying that she definitely didn't know, but that's why I make these videos now. So that more people can start to recognize the bad.

Man been watching your videos since idk a few years ago. I guess with the newer content you make, i kinda reflect and remember my own expereiences with the horse comunnity :') People being envious of eachother, looking down on eachother, etc. Adults looking down on kids that don't know any better (or if they are "poor" (wouldn't call it actually poor obv) instead of helping them. I guess at the same time i can't say i regret having those expereinces due to them showing up in life anyways, at least you are kinda prepared for them. And yes, horse abuse is awfully common, at least, where i live, with horses being overworked, malnourished, etc. Kids that want to help oout and be with horses, basically being free employees. Another thing is a lot of times the skill itself doesn't matter, you can see so many great and talented riders that get nothing, but that's life i guess. Obviously i don't want to say that there are no good people in the equestrian community, there are, but i must say it is one of the most toxic ones i have expereinced.

its so sad to see that a sport which was designed to showcase the connection a rider had with their horse has become so ensnared in greed, graft, and power grabs.

10:09 . My trainer cheers for me. But not to make me win 😭 just only cuz she was proud of me, not to help me win. But honestly, that doesn’t sound like the trainer to me, that sounds like the judges fault. She/he shouldn’t place someone higher cuz their trainer cheered. Idk, maybe that just me 🤷‍♀️
