That Gallo Pinto looks delicious, I would recommend that you add the garlic and the sweet chili to fry at the beginning with the onion, they give the oil a very good flavor at the beginning, the coriander would also add it at the end just as you did, you're a good cooker...

I found some Salsa Lizano at the Boqueria Market in Barcelona. What was that dip you had there at the end? A sort of aioli or mayonese? Thanks for sharing. :)
@EmmainCostaRica2 жыл бұрын
Awesome! The dip is actually Natilla, or Costa Rica's version of sour cream! Thanks for watching :)

Great tutorial! I just arrived to live in Costa Rica and you teach me how to cook local rice, thanks a lot! One question though, you didn't show how to cook cheese in the video, where do you use the cheese? Thanks!
@Marco-wp9dh Жыл бұрын
The white fresh cheese (Turrialba type if you go to the supermarket) is a side for this breakfast. Just cut some slices and that´s it. This type of cheese needs no cooking at all. There is also a delicious (not so healthy) cheese that is specifically for frying. You basically give it a couple of minutes each side in a hot pan with a little oil until golden brown and it´s incredible. Enjoy!!

Hi Emma, thanks for the recipe. You said you were going to fry the cheese, but it looked like you fried the plantain. Was that the plantain on the plate you took a bit of? Did you fry the cheese?
@EmmainCostaRica3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Thanks for watching! I just noticed your comment and went back through to check, I think something must have happened during the filming, and the cheese frying did not get captured, but yes, as you can maybe see at 7:16 the fried cheese did make to the plate! It is very simple to do, you just slice a half inch square, and place it in a hot pan with a touch of oil, and cook until it is golden brown on each side!

what did you dip the plantain into? What did you do with the cheese?
@EmmainCostaRica Жыл бұрын
Gosh, it's moments like these that make me realize how the quality of videos do change of time 😅 I am sorry for not explaining well in the video! I dipped the plantain into "natilla" or our version of sour cream! And then for the cheese, I did a quick fry, sear it on each side and on to the plate! It's very delicious like this!

One of the things people must remember when using Salsa Lizano is that it's not like ketchup/catsup and should be used SPARING or everything tastes like Salsa Lizano.
@EmmainCostaRica2 жыл бұрын
It's very true! It's only used a condiment to be used as if it were a type of seasoning, not to drown out all the other flavours! Except with green mangos, then it is drowning time (haha)
@sandydegener64362 жыл бұрын
@@EmmainCostaRica , I've never had it with green mangoes, is it good?

@mairadetterbeck4432 жыл бұрын
but how do you prepare the beans??
@EmmainCostaRica2 жыл бұрын
I prepare the beans like a typical dry bean, I soak the black beans in water for a few hours, rinse them, and then cook them with fresh water, bring to a boil, lower, cover and simmer for a few hours until they ate fully cooked! You can add cilantro or a clove of garlic if you want to add flavour, but never add salt until they are totally cooked, or else they will be hard!
@mairadetterbeck4432 жыл бұрын
@@EmmainCostaRica ahh thank you so much!! i’ve also heard a lot of people who don’t rinse them and told me to definitely keep that water when boiling - have you ever tried that?

Just to clarify… thank you. Thank you for your comment. you have single-handedly saved THE human race with your knowledge of the origins of the naming convention for the most unique of all human dishes… rice and beans…It is 100% from Nicaragua. No other humans ever!!! I mean ever !!!! Have eaten rice and beans… until after the Nicaraguans, like you and your ancient lineage, named it: “gallo pinto”. Thank you for that… Everyone, of coasts rich or poor, should know how much they owe YOU... JUST TO clarify!

Saludos, caregavers.
