Thanks a lot ! Love how you show clearly everything, and use the camera to film the screen! I suppose that for multiple unpublished works, one needs to use the GRUW.

One of the best simple, explanations of "how to do it", I have heard on KZbin. And I have watched a bunch of the "how to" Copyright videos. In the copyrighting, I believe one is copyrighting the melody of the song (lyrics too), and not the chords or drums. Chord progressions and drum tracks, I don't believe are copyrightable. There are tons of songs with G, Em, C and D, chords (or whatever Key you would play those chords) but many different melodies to that simple chord progression.

Great, helpful! Thank you. Questions: 1) It is now March 2020; Is what you covered still current? (I saw one comment that you can now only upload 10 songs, for example). 2) Am I correct that I can save what I input indefinitely as I work on revising songs, and then submit weeks or even months down the line? 3) Right now I'm just interested in copyrighting my work. I plan just to make quick and dirty recordings of them at home, but then eventually record them for publishing. Once published, do I go back to the website and update tunes as published? 4) Can I put the date I originally wrote each song? I have many songs written over many years. -- Thanks for the video and, hopefully, for your responses to my questions! -Gil G., San Francisco

Question, I'm registering an album and I have several producers. 15 tracks with various producers. How do I go about this information when it comes to the "authors" section of the application? Do I just go down the list and put them all? How will people know what authors are attached to what song if I just type them all out 1 by 1 in a list? Thx 4 your reply
@432HzMusicTV4 жыл бұрын
in this case it's probably better to register each song one by one. the idea behind registering all songs on an album at once is that THE ALBUM (collection of songs) is treated as ONE WORK. if you own all the master rights (copyrights) to your songs (no matter who helped produce it) then all the other people don't need to be listed. that's why having everything on paper is crucial when working with multiple people. so there's no confusion as to who owns what. cheers!

also by default whoever recorded the music is automatically the copyright owner of that sound recording (unless otherwise agreed upon.)

Excellent video. Thanks so much for your detailed guide through the process. However, unless I missed it, I didn't see any mention of cost for copyrighting a collection of songs. That was one of the key bits of information I was hoping to get. Is it cheaper to do the group of songs as opposed to individually? Can I expect to pay $100 . . . $200? It's now early 2024, so the cost may have increased. But I'd love to have a ballpark idea what I can expect. Thanks again for the detailed video.

@@rduran1974 We just filed a copyright for an album of 13 songs (that we released on Friday). Went smoothly. I chose the title of the album for the "Title of Work Being Registered" and then I chose "Contents Title" and listed all the titles out in that section. This was for the PA. For the SR I just did the title of the album under "Title of Work Being Registered." It looks like that due to recent changes in the copyright registration process that "Group Registration of Unpublished Works" is what is needed now for submitting a music album with multiple songs. Also, note that you cannot copyright chord progressions or song structures, only melody and lyrics. Thank you for your efforts to help others, but I suggest, as others have below, that you take the video down to avoid inadvertently misleading or confusing people.
