One of the better instructional videos. Thanks, man. What was most helpful was the "90degrees" bit at the hit point. Makes me realize I was forcing shots through my arm, and not waiting for my shoulders and hips to sync with my arm in front of me. Please keep posting videos. Very useful.

Good job man, yeah the spinning of the disc and constant movement is a little distracting but it's all good in getting exactly what you are throwing down... Maybe you are nervously something, if that's the case don't be nervous, you're doing a great job getting all the little details that are usually missed by most other videos... Again great job, if we where closer I'd pay for lessons from you because you talk my language, it's relatable!!! Most of all thank you for sharing!!!

Really really great video. Iva played for about 3 month and really need to learn the correct way to engage my hole body to my throw. Since I have played handball for 20 years can get 300 yards with horrible form. So im watching all these videos of pros throwing and instructions of how to throw. What most videos fail to explain is the timing and what they think about doing when they throw. For Paul McBeth i guess he just aim and throw, no big thoughts. But thats 1000+ hours of throwing. I really need to learn how to get that heel down first, then rotate hips, then pull arm to chest, then hit! (Dan Beto style). Anothing thing i like is that you explain what not to do, cause that is easy to pick up on bad habbits. Great video!

Thank you so much! I think I do the slow cocking thing you talked about, and I start turning my hips too soon, will have to fix this with a lot of field work...

A lot of what you said about timing and balance throughout the shot is just what is taught in baseball hitting mechanics. good thing to think about. I always forget to slow down my x-step.

Best (only) timing video I've found!The mention of the 90 degree is not perfectly clear. It would be great if you did the exact same video over with a tiny bit more clarity on the 90 degree angle. However, this video, even as it is, is superb! Thanks and "make aces"!

I think he means when the forearm and upper arm come forward and are at a 90* to each other the upper arm should be 90* to the shoulder, then whip through( I certainly am not making a 90* angle with my arm and elbow). I'm going to see if that improves my distance. I am activating my arm only and not "gluing" my forearm to upper arm to shoulder at the 90* angles. Now "slow is smooth and smooth is far" may actually happen now. Hope I helped you.

Good video and tips. There is such a large difference between where I am (325ft) and where I want to be (400ft). I am now focusing on the upper body and that part of the hit and am getting 325ft fairly regularly with little lower body. I really need to work in that timing to get the additional distance.

Nice video! At the end of last season I was really pleased with my driving. But, I've been mostly putting throughout December and now I'm noticing a lot of old lazy habits slipping back into my driving taking me from smooth accurate 415-430' drives to herky-jerky 350' of crap. Your video helped remind me of a few things I used to do better. Keep up the good work. No idea what's up with +Chris Davies. Dude needs to chill.

I know it's unlikely you will reply but I'll ask anyway. If I understand you correctly, I'm not supposed to activate my shoulder or arm in general until I'm at the hit point?
@DannyLindahl
@DannyLindahl 6 жыл бұрын
You don't ever really activate your shoulder. Your elbow activates from the power pocket forward. Think of building speed throughout the throw. Rather than going fast from the beginning, start slow and finish fast.

@@DannyLindahl is there anyway I could message you Beck and forth? I'm pretty new to disc golf but I've spent a ridiculous amount of time researching backhand form, but I'm still having issues in execution that I could really use advice. If we aren't supposed to actively use the shoulder, just an elbow drive, are we then not supposed to actively rotate the upper body, which I'd say was active shoulder movement?

makes sence to me....u sprained my right ankle and couldn't Xstep at all.nor push off a forehand....so all I had was a standing pivot throw motion for my rhbh...I had to be smooth in my motion or cause too much pain in my ankle....I added atleast 30-40ft to my drive

You can watch this video and work on one thing at the time, never work on multipla things at once, focus on hips and nothing else, i would say focus on the hit point for atleast 2 weeks, it take time to adjust, iam terrible at that.

More advice: flipping the disc constantly is very annoying, and distracting. Do not make ANY movements which are not related to what you are talking about. You are still talking too quickly. You are still using a stream of consciousness rather than a script. You are still waving your arms around the place in a very uncontrolled way. The only time you show any discipline of movement is when you actually throw the disc. STOP WAVING YOUR ARMS AROUND, AND MAKING VAGUE AND LOOSE MOVEMENTS. If you worked from a script this video would only need to be 4 minutes long. You didn't make a single cut in your entire video! NO ONE can talk for 9 minutes and not need cutting. You repeat yourself several times, and your gun analogy is bad. You don't need to make analogies here. Do not film into the sun. You must have the sun on your face, and against the back of the camera. It washes out the video, and you get lens flares and it degrades the visual quality. I think you are trying to address too many topics at one time. Pick a small topic - like HIPS. Make a video which is ONLY about the hips. Create some exercises for people to develop a feeling for using their hips. No exercise = no feelings = no improvement. You clearly know a lot about what makes a disc fly far, but you know next to nothing about teaching people physical things.

+harris reid I agree. Not really that distracting at all. Great info and good video all around. Who cares what he was doing as long as the info was good and he explained it well. I hate these people who criticize everything. This video was way better that Shusterick's or Wysocki's.

If you asked him for advice on how to throw better, would you prefer he smile and lie tell you your form is perfect, or be truthful and give you specific, actionable, ways in which to improve? He ASKED for criticism. Taking time out of one's day to supply feedback is doing him a favor. Maybe you missed the request because you didn't bother to watch the whole thing?
