Great advice! I really like the one about letting letting out balls go out. If our ball is low and they swing big, it is likely to go out. Thank you for the tips!

I understand why you advise to hit deep and not invite them to the kitchen. That works great at the pro and higher levels. However my experience playing against bangers is that they hate playing the short game and when they drive I find that a short volley that bounces low is often more effective than a deep volley. They either try for another drive which often goes into the net or sails long - if they manage to hit the ball into the kitchen then great for me as bangers are usually uncomfortable dinking.

I played against some good players, and this one guy would hit hard drives at my midsection when I was at the kitchen and he was at the baseline. Really hard drives. I used a soft grip to dump the ball toward the sideline into the kitchen, and he couldn't get to it. After two of them he quit hitting those smashes at me. The first one brought gasps from several onlookers.

Very informative! I still have a really hard time judging when to let a ball go out, so I found it really helpful to pay closer attention to watching how low to high the swing is on balls returned from below the net. Thanks for putting these tips out here!

Great video! Although, there seems to be a lot of videos already about “How to beat bangers” . Like we put bangers on a high regard…How about a video on how to beat the opposite? The soft game, super controlled, I’ll put the ball wherever I want type of players. How do we beat those? 😂

thanks for the great contents. Playing with bangers is my least favorite part of the game but I'm trying to improve in order not to get drag in their style. Thanks for the out-takes at the end.... made me feel like I played like a pro...lol. Souhaits de santé pour 2025 pour continuer à briller dans ton sport ;)

Good tips. Bangers are typically one dimensional players. They have little to no soft technical game. They cant dink, do drops, or move their opponents around. It's basically a hybrid tennis game.

There's not just "that guy" at one of my local clubs, half the players there are bangers, and all they want to do is bang; they go there just to bang... Thanks for the tips

Hi Catherine, thank you for these great videos! I am curious as to what grip you use when playing (Continental, Eastern, etc.) and do you have one grip for singles and another for doubles?

I am mostly in an eastern grip as that is my most comfortable grip! 💪

I've been playing almost a year (I'm 78), and have enjoyed all your videos, CP. Always useful. I've incorporated many of your lessons into my play. If I was more mobile, I'd be pretty good. Ha!

When I tried pickle ball a while back, I was hoping it would be something I could try for exercise. Just keep the ball in play for exercise. Then one of the players started giving me pointers. I quit. Not what I thought it would be at all.

Also if your bangers are hitting the same person or picking on the weaker opponent look for an opportunity to pouch. Dill one down the middle 😂. Or do some lobs to off set them.

As a banger, my strategy is to start with a few solid topspin forehands, making sure they land in to “program” my opponent into believing that all my hard shots will stay in play. Once that mindset is set, I shift my focus to simply hitting hard and avoiding the net, even if some shots might go out. The idea is that my opponent will instinctively try to return everything, increasing their chances of making mistakes

I actually really like to start out as a banger and see how people deal with it. It's also a great way for me to warm up by just hitting long. Of course, this is purely at a recreational level and against people I don't usually play with. It's fun to see what people do. Some will start to hit back shots that would have clearly been out, but the pace makes them stick their paddle up to block for some reason. Most do get very frustrated and will start banging back. If you're comfortable with hitting as hard as you can, it's really fun. Give it a shot. People will assume you're a complete idiot for hitting everything hard, but then you change up your game and it's all just a really fun time.
Is Zverev's new racquet making him even better?
