Great tutorial....I have been doing this for years...I just use the 1.86 fl oz semi-perm color dye bottle and use as much as I need...I poor equal portions from the two (2) bottles into a small bowl mix and follow the rest of the directions on the box. I get about five (5) applications from one bottle. I use Clairol Natural Instincts 5A Medium Cool Brown.

I do. Usually it is best to color your hair after a couple of days of not washing it, the color takes better. So when I color, I leave it on for 15, then rinse, shampoo and condition. Always a consistent, great result.

If you need to touch up all your roots, we recommend you use your regular Nice 'n Easy shade and just apply it to all of the new growth as the Root Touch up will not have enough product to do this. It is not always necessary to pull the tint down to the rest of the hair every time you color. You can choose to do this every second or third coloring, or as needed. And here is a tip for you: If you do not need to use all of your product at once, we recommend mixing half of your color with half of your developer in a separate applicator bottle. Whatever is not used, recap tightly, and do not mix. The unmixed portion can be saved up to 6 weeks. Once mixed, the product needs to be used and then discarded. We hope this is helpful. The Clairol Root Touch Up does not work at all. I used the medium brown. It didn't cover my gray hair at all. Maybe, it wasn't dark enough to cover my grays. I don't know. I had to do it again in two weeks. That's too many chemicals for my hair.

@@clairolna I have used this product twice now during the pandemic and the grey roots grew back after 4 weeks and my hair shade did not fade. 45 minutes is the length of time I left the product in after application. I am 65 years old and used dark ash brown. My husband applied the product throughout the roots in my hair. I plan on using this product occasionally after the pandemic rather than spending over a hundred dollars every 4 weeks.

As a licensed professional this is BAD!! When you go to your salon next time and get a touch up and it doesn’t cover THIS is WHY!! Don’t blame the stylist!! Most people do. Non professional box color consists of water wax and fragrance. The wax builds up on the hair causing problems for the professional stylist. There is NOTHING considered quick fix! I just leave mine on for twice as long as it says to, and the color lasts longer that way. And as fast as my hair grows, I have to re-do the roots every month anyway, but I do go to my hairdresser every couple of root touch ups so she can color all of it, then do my hi-lites.

Good Question! When you dampen your hair it evens out the porosity so it absorbs the color more evenly from roots to ends resulting in a better overall hair color result.

Clairol not necessarily, often times if the hair is over processed it will absorb too much tint and wind up darker than your roots. People never learn, they just slap it on all over and winner why their ends are black a year after doing this every six weeks

I used to use their Natural Instincts formula which worked very well for me because I didn't have a lot of gray. Then they changed the formula just recently and it hardly even covers the gray. So disappointed. So I'm on the lookout for another product.
