This may have already been mentioned, but I noticed you didn’t cut your piping fabric on the bias, do you not think it is necessary? Just curious, it would certainly save time and fabric not to cut on the bias in my opinion.
@ArtisanUpholsteryStudio3 жыл бұрын
It definitely saves time and a lot of fabric not to. It hardly ever needs to be cut on the bias, but I have a video on bias piping in case you want to know when it can be done. (PS , it’s never NECESSARY).

I am SO happy I found you! :-)! Is there any chance you have a video on how to de-sag a (beloved older!!) leather-covered couch that LOOKS like it has three cushions but they are all actually attached to a bottom piece. Or at any rate to the couch below. The leather covering is fine, but the wood framing is starting to press against aging legs (LOL) We love this couch it just needs a little bit of foam and stuffing (at the leg end of the seat? probably entire cushion...) thanks!

Hi! Your videos are so great! Thanks for posting them! I have a question about fastening the welting: I had always thought that double-welting was stapled onto the chair, hidden inside the channel between the welts. I am curious why you prefer hot glue for this? And is the glue durable enough for long-term wear?
@ArtisanUpholsteryStudio6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment! The staples can create a bumpy look to the welt, which is why I prefer hot glue. Yes, it generally lasts, but sometimes studs at the corners (or staples) are a good idea to reinforce it.

why do you make the piping on the straight of the grain versus on the bias? Is there a reason? thx

Bias uses more fabric and is not necessary most of the time
@thunderheadsewing65934 жыл бұрын
@@ArtisanUpholsteryStudio Hi! In your experience, which type of projects would require bias-cut strips in order for the piping to look acceptable? Thank you!
@ArtisanUpholsteryStudio4 жыл бұрын
- Cushions that curve at the back and are filled with down (no structure from foam) are a must on the bias. - Double piping glued as trim on very curved pieces, but that’s not always necessary, just a little easier. - Whenever you don’t feel like matching up an obvious pattern (end of the day on a Friday for example). Anything else is a waste of fabric in my experience.

@ArtisanUpholsteryStudio Жыл бұрын
Just hot melt glue sticks. It’s the glue gun that matters - it has to get very hot. A crafting glue gun wouldn’t work as well.

Thank you for your fast reply! I think the chairs look amazing, and I am sure your client was thrilled with the outcome. I have a hand held staple gun, a hot glue gun that is smaller than yours (think of the size you might use for simple crafting) and a regulator that is smaller (the metal part is 4”). Do you think I should invest in tools like of yours to ensure my success or should I try to use what I have? As info, I have two chairs similar to the ones you did in this video that require double-welting, and I have three additional chairs that do not require welting. Please advise.
@ArtisanUpholsteryStudio5 жыл бұрын
I think your tools will work just fine, except maybe the hot glue gun...make sure it’s the kind that gets really hot because it makes a difference for the permanency of the glue.

OK Aimee, so now I need to learn how to use a sewing machine, fun. I think the double piping looks really great, but you must get a double shoe? I do have a daughter-in-law that is a very good seamstress so maybe she can make the piping. How do you make a single piping as that is what I will need for two chairs I plan to try re-upholster? I think I saw a video of how to attach it to the frame of a chair. Great video as usual, but you make it look so-o easy, 24 years of skill building helps I'm sure.
