Thank you for this! I am going to tackle this. It’s my first time reading the Bible fully and it’s a youth Bible (I’m 44 years old🥴). I wanted to set myself up for success with something I could understand easier, but been wanting to cover up the colourful youth cover.

Ooh yay, let me know how it turns out and what vinyl you end up choosing! Girl, no judgment from me whatsoever - I have no shame confessing that I love kids bibles, haha, and it doesn't matter how old we are, as long as we're getting in the Word! Covering it with a more mature cover is a great idea though 😍

Thank you so much for this video, you know I was curious and just recently asked you about it. I was thinking I was going to have to send my commentary to you to cover for me! 😊 Good job, I think it looks great. I know I’m going to be so nervous trying this myself…I have perfectionist tendencies, too😊 I appreciate this video.
@my-white-bible4 ай бұрын
You're most welcome sis, this video was certainly for you!! I hope you will try it out, you can do it! And if you make any mistakes, they are easily corrected and you can peel this vinyl off without causing any damage to the book as well. If you're super perfectionist, just measure the flaps and cut a lot slower so your edges are really straight. Even with me not being super careful, I was still happy with the final result, so I'm sure yours will turn out even better if you're more accurate with it! Let me know if you try it 🥰

I never thought to use contact paper! This is really creative. Just curious, what gave you the idea?
@my-white-bible4 ай бұрын
Aw thanks so much! I got the idea a few years ago after I had covered an ugly desk using white marble vinyl. I was so pleased with the result that I started looking around at what else I could wrap with the white marble 😅Then the idea just came to me to try covering my ugly book with it and the rest is history lol 🤣

Yes I also am drawn to prettier covers as well! But sometimes I don't mind because I could always get it rebound later possibly! But thanks for the video - I usually just crochet cute covers for my Bibles haha Can't wait to find some pretty vinyl to try on my hardcover Bibles

Great minds think alike! We both posted similar videos on the same day. 😊 Mine is also redecorating a hard cover Bible using vinyl. We are using slightly different methods though. But, wow! Love your aesthetic. ❤

Love the KJV it's all I use... Not keen on Tony Evans though but that's just me.

That's fair! I heard he stepped down recently as a result of some kind of scandal... but that will be between him and the Lord; we are all flawed humans. His commentary seems sound theologically though, and I do make sure to cross reference with other sources as well.

I’m sorry if this has been asked, or if it has been mentioned on the video (I am at work and unable to watch it right now), will this work with cloth hardcover bibles? 😊 thank you!
@my-white-bible4 ай бұрын
I've not tried it on cloth, but I wouldn't think it's suitable as there isn't a smooth area for the vinyl to grip onto. Have you thought of covering it with fabric and PVA glue instead?
@InwardBeautyMinistries4 ай бұрын
Would the same work for a leather Bible? I have a couple that I would like to wrap.
@my-white-bible4 ай бұрын
Mmmm I've not tried it so can't be certain, but I have my doubts that it will work as effectively, as it may not stick to the leather well. With soft cover leathers I also can't see it coping well with bending, and you will also have the challenge of curved corners...! Have you considered painting your leather ones instead? I have a video on that which worked really well!

Ah the interlinear I actually got second hand from Amazon, and some of my others I have purchased from Etsy!

Check thrift stores, used book stores, library sales and estate sales. I recently went to an estate sale and this lady owned SO many Bibles. I acquired quite a few of them most of them in excellent shape and some that were well loved and used. Two of them I will be putting a new cover on and may have to redo the binding as well, but I'll likely be using leather or a good quality faux leather.

Is it easy to grab or does it slide out of your hand easily? I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and my hands don't grip as easily.
@my-white-bible4 ай бұрын
Oh I'm sorry to hear that! You raise a good point that I forgot to mention in the video, that the vinyl I always choose is matte texture rather than gloss, which does feel so much nicer and more grippy in the hand! I wonder if you could find some nice rubbery textured vinyl to use that would make holding them even easier? God bless!
@PattiMarkley4 ай бұрын
I would recommend that you clean the book before you cover it. I use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, just dampen a cloth or paper towel to wipe down.
@my-white-bible4 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment! Sure, If your book is really dusty, then definitely clean it! But for regular circumstances it's an unnecessary step, in my opinion. In fact, I would warn to be very careful when using rubbing alcohol or water on books as not all hardcovers are the same and can get ruined. Honestly, vinyl sticks to pretty much any flat surface like a dream, and I've not found washing beforehand has ever been necessary!

I love brown but leather and classic looking. I like stamped leather a lot but I don't like pictures and modern things.
@my-white-bible4 ай бұрын
Yes I know what you mean, classic brown leather is nice! I was referring more to commentaries and hardbacks for this video rather than leathers (which are probably not suitable for vinyl anyway!) Thanks for commenting!
