Former Green Beret and GRS contractor Mike Glover goes over the fundamentals of single-man close quarters battle (CQB).
We've all seen it - the sexy CQB videos with full kit. That has its place, but as a civilian, it's not grounded in reality based training. More often than not, you're going to be alone with a pistol.

This guy is good...Can we all just appreciate this dude fed us 30mins of info UNCUT. I’ve watched other videos of “gun guys” where it’s kinda obvious they have a little knowledge they make sound overly complex so they come across like experts. If you pay close attention this guy is trying to water it down for us, you can tell he catches himself naturally falling into more complex aspects of the subject then dumbs it down for us, signs of a true master of a craft. Mike, as a LEO we do not get the amount of training that I believe we need. Yes, we train and we have excellent instructors, but it’s minimal. This video taught me a lot, I’ve had to go in buildings by myself or with just one more officer. This single man CQB video pointed out a lot of small and big flaws that I have. Thank you so much for teaching us!

Bro, you have no idea. I have sort of been on both sides of this coin. I was a street cop before 9/11 happened and then I became an Air Marshal(retired now). Not that I was an "operator", but I was initially trained by those guys and have had them as co-workers. And had continuous specialized training during my career. Back in '01 there was virtually zero street cop advanced training. My eyes were opened up to a whole different world of tactics. All we ever knew as cops back then was take cover behind the car door or trunk and wait for a shootout. I also know it's impossible for departments to train as much it takes to reach this(or near) level. I look back on the ignorant(lack of training) situations I had been as a cop, compared to what I know now and I wonder how I stayed alive. Unfortunately cops have to take extra training on their own time, but fortunately there are guys like Mike out there who make info available. If I were working the street today, I would get together with some like minded co-workers and have youtube "training parties" every month for a day and practice these things. Stay safe.

When I worked for AirMunition North America as an Instructor/Trainer, we used to take down LEO’s all the time during scenario based training. Even “SWAT” is not immune to making mistakes. Many good points in this video. Angle manipulation and over exposure got a lot of students in trouble. Training, training, training...

Out of curiosity are you at a small department or something? In my 15 years of Law Enforcement I have received a very adequate amount of bi monthly to monthly training on CQB, triage, defensive tactics, use of force scenarios, shoot house, etc. I'm Seattle PD though so not sure about smaller departments. You shouldn't be clearing buildings without a back up Officer unless of a extreme scenario where preservation of life is a must. Sounds like your department may be lacking on safety if you're clearing houses by yourself in my humble opinion.

I only know this because of his podcast with navy seal and CIA contractor Sean Ryan. But point being, dude’s creds are a mile long. Like I said more qualified than 99.9999% of anyone on the internet. I felt like he was talking directly to me in a way, referencing old Squad tactics I used more than a decade ago, and helping me see their translation into civillian world single man situations. I also didn't know it was possible to give a professional class on room clearing without grabbing someone by the drag handle of their IBA, or slapping their helmet, while shouting "dead!" 😆. Most likely scenario yes! Luckily for me, my brother also carries a firearm so it would be a 2 man team clearing the house. We also have a 4k square foot house including the basement so I would want a 2nd shooter withe as we have lots of opposing doors. I go to clear one and get shot in the back solo, but with a 2nd man I'm more or less all right. I'll clear while he maintains rear security, them join me in clearing if the room is big enough or has closets or doors that need to be opened to cleared. One opens the door and the second clears said space. We also know the layout of our home like the back of our hands haha so it flows seamlessly

I have a concern which I hope you can clear up for me. As of late, I have noticed an upward trend of LOD deaths involving ambush during disturbance/domestic calls/serving warrants. Most recently the tragic LOD death of Deputy Sheriff William Petry of the Floyd County Sheriff's Office, Kentucky as well as Capt Ralph Frasure and Officer Jacob Chaffins, both of the Prestonsburg Police Dept. Even a K-9 by then name of Drago was killed in this encounter. All shot and killed in the same incident. If you wouldn't mind sharing, what do you feel are the biggest dangers officers face as well as any fatal errors officers make during these types of encounters. Is there anything you may have noticed in the incidents you have reviewed that raise any red flags/concerns about the type of training LEOs are receiving or lack there of? Tactics being used or not used? Your reply would be greatly appreciated Robert. Thank you.

(@@EddieLeal ) So many Law Enforcement Agencies are broke, meaning our regular training, and specified tactics are almost void nowadays. Ever heard the saying, you practice like you play? It's so very true. It's just not there nowadays. Most Agencies so short staffed nowadays, guys are mandated to work 56-70 hour weeks. It's insane, guys are exhausted and lives are being lost. Retirements or resignations are at a all time high. Officers are so scared to do their jobs anymore, they are worried about making a mistake, as a result being brought up on charges by the Bureaucrats! Officers hesitating to Police the way they were taught and trained, or through all the experience they gained through their careers has came to almost a complete halt. This is exactly why so many LEOs are being killed. Its sad, the politicians are now running Law Enforcement..

This is really good stuff for those watching but have never done this before. I was a LEO for 16 years with most of my career in a urban county in Georgia, we had a really good training division. I have attended SWAT schools which were awesome for tactics. At one point in my career I was clearing 2-5 houses a day because of the foreclosure from the housing collapse and people breaking into them. Get used to moving the gun in and out from your body, you will need that skill. If you are wearing body armor keep your front square to the threat so if bad guy shoots the armor catches it, is no armor get used to turning your body to make for a thinner smaller target. Good stuff with this video, I am going to share it with a buddy who still teaches tactics and firearms for a small department.

The butthole was a special forces instructor who told me to never walk backwards. The reasoning behind it was that you cannot see what is behind you and you run the risk of tripping (Lots of debris in a combat area) or as he put it "putting your foot in a bucket" was the term that was used. Alot has changed, the way it "was" done is not the way it "is" done. The grip on the weapon with pistols, and the way you acquire the natural point of aim. CQB and room clearing has become more refined and better ways of doing things have been adapted. Watching you're videos has improved my "game" even though I have not been in it for a while now. A couple of advanced subjects he didn’t cover: 1) The first time a pistol goes off, X amount of bad guys now know you’re there. 2) After that, rooms you previously cleared, might no longer be cleared. 3) Floor debris/types are your enemy. Here his shoes/boots squeak? Slow deliberate movements. Situational/environmental awareness is imperative!!! 4) Taking a knee is humble. Don’t be afraid to drop to one knee. This deliberate movement might give you the edge in a shootout. He’s going to be adjusting his aim. You already know where to shoot. 5) This isn’t a video game. Depending on the building materials (in this case a residential home) you might be able to shoot through a wall to get to a hardened target behind cover. Think outside the box. 6) Just because you have a suppressor doesn’t make you silent!!!😂 7) Solo CQB is the most dangerous thing you can do. There’s a reason we operate in teams!!! 8) G’luck and have a gud’n.

To start with this is a good video. Now just to empathise what the man said. Stay quiet, don’t brush against walls, lift you’re feet, don’t let them squeak or make a shuffle sound, u always get a creaky door, on each clearing a room n u r in a safe place for a moment, take a time out n listen, this also disorientates anyone who may be trying to track your flow thru the property making him think u may be further along than u actually are an it also serves as a breathing moment for yourself, no immediate rush to do anything. Remember most walls in the USA are not hard cover from my experience, they are concealment but not cover so expect shots thru a wall. Try n keep your elbows in at all times unless it prevents u from making a needed movement. In most cases your weapon should follow your eyes. Try to keep it in the back of your mind that u may be about to shoot someone, make sure that person is a valid threat, it’s a millisecond decision u r gonna have to make but try n make it the right one by not getting to hyped up, going back to the breather moment u gave yourself a moment ago, which again if the person in the house is tracking your progress then stops noticing your progress this will also help disorientate him n even make him think u r about to come around the corner when u r still in fact in the previous room still, this may help to draw him out to make a preemptive move or make a noise as he knows u r nearly on him or her or whatever. Probably a mute point but wearing clothing that makes a sound isn’t a good idea, a cotton T-shirt n not a synthetic rustling jacket will help. When in the situation the training is OVER, don’t get to hung up on it as it WILL distract you, hopefully u will already but reasonably proficient, this is NOT to say forget your training, just don’t overthink it, the time for that was last week during training n hopefully the muscle memory n natural instincts from your training will come into effect. If u overthink it u will mess up. As soon as u see a target n it APPEARS to be a threat, don’t be a still target yourself, I assure you the other guy will be, this means in most cases move quickly so they can’t get an accurate shot at you, not always possible but it is worth considering, shoot whilst on the move, also you moving when first identifying the threat allows that brief moment of decision if it’s a valid target & for you to get out of the immediate way, better to get shot in the shoulder than the face. Know you EDC like the back of your hand, learn every part, every millimetre of that weapon, so it’s just like an extension of you’re body. Remember that most of these situations CAN end peacefully, if u r unlucky n have a murderous crack pot in ur home intent on killing u then obviously shots probably are going to be fired, in this situation, on ur own, pray that the guy is high on crack n will make mistakes n rush things n not shoot straight, I know it’s hard but try n stay as calm as possible, if you’re life is in immediate danger take swift and decisive action. We were taught never to point a weapon at anybody unless you intend to kill them. That’s good weapon skills, it doesn’t mean you HAVE to kill them, it means if they do anything to threaten you then ensure u have already made your mind up a few seconds ago that you will pull that trigger, u don’t want to be thinking about that decision whilst actually pointing the weapon at him, have you’re mind already focused on the matter in hand. Lastly n I know this won’t be popular with many, but remember that unless you will be putting yourself at more risk, u can always back away, there’s nothing wrong with this & sometimes takes more courage to back out than it does not to. Get yourself to a safe position or place “every situation is different” get help, call the police if u haven’t done so “this is assuming u are a civilian & someone has broke into you’re or a friends home” as in this situation. Shout out to the guy, saying something like, just get the F out, no need to die, I’m not a cop n won’t try n stop you but just get out of my property leaving everything behind. Give the guy a moment to think, then say if he doesn’t get out then ur calling the cops, u should, if u had the chance already of called, he shouldn’t know that hopefully. If he does then he is gonna want to get out of there soonest before they get on scene which is an added bonus for him. All I’m saying is there are many ways to deal with these type of things n EVERY one is different, as you can never tell the situation or plan what the guy is going to do u need to be flexible in you’re thinking, use your head. If u are so inclined you can try n stop him even though u said u wouldn’t but u are putting yourself at unnecessary risk & in most cases u have loved ones to think of. It’s your call, I know what I would do. I u had called the cops n this has been going on for a few minutes then even if u let him go he will probably bump right into them, just make sure u get a full look at him n there clothing etc. Anyway, there’s my few cents worth, now I await the ritualistic KZbin ripping apart. Thanks 🙏 in advance.

There's so much BS on the internet, you almost get sick of it, but this guy is clearly the "Real Deal" and knows his craft! Plus, all of his little "Dad" humor cracks me up! I'm "In" and just subscribed! Definitely want to see more of what "FieldCraft" has to offer, but if it's anything like this vid, then it'll be well worth it! 👍👍

The best tool I’ve had to deter wildlife or trespassers has been my car keys (alarm). If I’m moving and worried someone is lying in wait, I’m hitting the car alarm to cover my footsteps.

18:00 This might be mentioned later in the video but just in case, I think it's worth remembering in my opinion that when you've cleared a room, that doesn't necessarily mean it's still that way. If token bad guy capitalized on an opportunity to change position (to a room you've cleared if he's clever) you certainly don't want to take it for granted that it's still clear if you've broken line of sight and reasonable hearing

I might be late but I love how you don't hover your finger over the trigger. I try to teach others that because you never know what/who is going to jump scare you. You might end up shooting someone who is in need of your help.

I wish this video was around d 2 years ago. I had to clear my late father's house in Detroit. A two story with a basement. 2 minutes before I got there 6 males just left out the bedroom window. Dude the heart rate is freaking jacked! Controlling breathing? Forget about it lol. I'm a civilian, never been in that situation. I remember taking a cleansing breathe every time I breached a room. Holy crap that was quite the experience. Couches were flipped over , beds.

@@darrell058 Def. not all cases. You might go in to a crazy mode where time slows down. But you'd have to be skilled and on perfect balance. Having feelings of your closed ones being in danger might change that a lot.

It was so difficult to breathe. I had to blast all my air out and almost hold it , to steady myself. The adrenaline dump each time I entered a room , hands shaking like mad. I death gripped my pistol. The experience took all my energy out of me when I was done , and the police showed up. They re cleared the house and property.
