Good tutorial. Enough to follow along with if you have a basic understanding of how to use maya. Beautiful sword too.

Hi, im new to this industry, Should i ask first the artist of the concept art first in their dm's before making a model and posting it online or i could get away with just mentioning and linking their art on my posts?
@333Andyboy
@333Andyboy 3 жыл бұрын
If I've ever done a model from a concept, I always make sure I ask the artist if I can make it in 3D first because sometimes they don't allow it due to legality reasons etc. So for the sake of not wasting your time or getting into any trouble, I'd ask the artist first :)

I think you could CLONE the eye after you've created one with the animations. That way the attributes you have in the original will transfer over to the clone. That might be the way to work around the cut and paste of the animations.

Great videos. I'm a Game Art student now too. QUESTION: Since you ended up rounding over all of the edges on the tentacles, why didn't you just start with cylinders instead of spheres? I'm not being sarcastic. I'm learning. I'd appreciate a reply. Thank in advance!

Would you ever sculpt weapons? With mirroring you can make it straight. The imperfections from sculpting might give a weapon more story to it?
@333Andyboy
@333Andyboy 3 жыл бұрын
You certainly can! Although I'm not as familiar with sculpting software as I am with Maya so in this circumstance I used what felt the most comfortable. I'm learning more about ZBrush the more I use it though with the intention of doing exactly what you said :)

On the pommel couldn’t you just use the cylinder or was it to keep the poly count down I’m new to this and I’m just trying to learn

This question might come late but I thought it could be worth asking anyway: Any reason why you didn't use beveling of some edges? given that stylized workflow seems an excellent practice for smoother edges or highlights for those edges.

You could probably apply everything you see in this video to blender. Just slightly different tools. Could get a similar result though if you use your imagination a bit :)

Just curious, why do people still use 3Dcoat to hand-paint when it's possible to do in Substance Painter? Is it just a comfort thing (not in this case, since Andrew said it was his first time using it) or are there some tools in 3DCoat that make it a lot easier? I'd love to see a video comparing the two with process pros & cons in depth. Maybe you already have one?

Great idea for a video! The general consensus is that substance feels very clunky when handpainting. There's more to it obviously but that's a quick breakdown

How to get a handpainted render in maya?

Workflow Question: I see this workflow has no need for a high poly version. Im running into a problem where I am ready to paint texture and notice the low poly facets on the flat of the blade are just too prominent, making me think that higher poly is needed, but that defeats the whole purpose. What am I missing? Has to be something major Im missing.
@gusbuster9587
@gusbuster9587 Жыл бұрын
I think you can raise the quality of the texture in Substance before bake, so you can keep your low poly and a nice map. Or is the size of your UVs.
