hey ben, soon to be a graduate civil engineer here, and your videos have been a huge inspiration. I was wondering if you would consider getting into some structural analysis software content? perhaps a walkthrough of how to use softwares like strand7, or spacegass? I feel like you have an amazing way of structuring your content, which makes it not boring at all!
@BEngHielscher Жыл бұрын
Hey! Yes, this is something I’ve been thinking about doing but perhaps in a online course format. Probably somewhere around 20 5-10 minute short videos where I completely take you through how I model and analyse/design a steel structure in something like spacegass. Would this be something you are interested in?
@agnixious Жыл бұрын
definitely! even if it wasn't a free resource on youtube, but say on patreon, I would be more than happy to be subscribed for that! and i'm pretty sure many others would agree too@@BEngHielscher

This video has been really helpful Ben, thank you. I will be graduating in the coming days, and I’ve followed each and every step of your guide in preparation for graduate roles. I am just a little unsure if the formatting and structure of your amazing template is ATS friendly, coz AI apparently doesn’t like headers/footers and occasionally columns. Also not sure if pictures in the portfolio might cause issues if the resume and portfolio are in the same document.

Thanks a lot bro, there aren't many videos out there particular for this topic! I watched your video on portfolio recently, just wandering, is portfolio basically a more detailed description/an extension of a resume? What's the main difference of using a resume & portfolio vs CV? Are all of them important and needed for job search? Huge thanks again.
@BEngHielscher Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I’m glad to hear you are enjoying the videos. Yes, a portfolio is basically an extension of your resume. From my understanding a CV and a resume is the same thing and are just called different things depending on where you are in the world. Typically Americans use the world “resume” and Europeans use “CV”. I think in almost all cases if you apply with both a resume and portfolio that is perfect. Unless the job application specifically wants you to provide a cover letter, I wouldn’t provide one. I think hiring managers are much more likely to look at your portfolio rather than read a cover letter so your effort is better spent creating a portfolio. Hope this helps :)

Is it possible to make a video showing a resume as a student. Im graduating next semester and im trying to formulate a resume so i can get an opportunity for an internship before graduation. Im studying civil engineering as well. Thanks
@BEngHielscher Жыл бұрын
I might make a video like this one day but for now what I would suggest you to do is to follow the advice given in this video and highlight the experience you’ve gotten from your university projects and any personal projects. Good luck with your applications!

Heyy man , I love your videos a lot , very informative for me as a first year student and dreaming of a good career . just wandering did you do any postgraduate or masters degree after your bachelors …and any advice on what to do to become a structural engineering after completing bachelors degree in civil engineering .
@BEngHielscher Жыл бұрын
Hey! I’m happy to hear you are liking the videos. I didn’t do a masters. In Australia, a four year bachelors degree is enough to start working. Some advice I can give which will help you to become a structural engineer is to try and get internships while in your studies. This will make you more employable when applying to graduate roles or you might even be offered a graduate role during an internship. Hope this helps :)
